UPDATE

Ive made some quick videos of the belcher in game. The frame rate is a bit ****, will need to find some good settings.

hi,

I was just playing around with a character idea, still needs work on the topology and lots of texture work.

I plan on rigging and animating this guy, and then do all the skill sets etc later.

Still not sure of what style class to make him. I was thinking of either Demonic possessor ( turns into deamons or animals like a druid) or Rune Warrior that could belch fire :)

Feedback welcome. Ideas encouraged.

He is currently 1950 triangles, but i think i can reduce some bits and maybe add some more detail in the joints for animation.

    cheers,

    I was looking over the game models last night and realize i need to simply some of the shapes and exaggerate others.

    I'll hopefully have an update this afternoon.

    I still think it would be cool to have a shape shifter..allot more work though.

    I have done some changes to the model, im trying to keep it closer to the torchlight realm.

    I need to add a beard of some sort, and maybe make his face not so fat.

    Its down to 1500 tris, but i think i can clean up the head allot more, and make the boots a bit cooler. Then its onto UV's and texture (not my favourite part :( )

    Ive been looking into the skeletons for the characters, and I should be able to get a rig sorted fairly quickly. Hopefully i'll get some animation in the next week or two, depending on work.

    Has anyone had any luck with importing new animations into the game? I tried to make some tests for the destroyer, but they did'nt seem to get used. I replaced an animation file with one i created, but it still uses the original animation.

    They might be able to give a few usefull hints

    Is shapeshifting possible in torchlight? If that is, it's awesome. A werewolf is all I need :D

    Weaponwise I'd go for lances and spears, they're really cool looking weapons not very used as default weapons in RPGs, which is a shame

    BTW that's one fine looking mesh, well polished. Did you do that yourself or got it from somewhere? looks good

    thanks. The I have updated the model and made it have a nicer silhoutte. I made the model from scratch in maya, and ive been looking at the ingame models, to try and match the way they use smooth and hard edges.

    I got the character into the game last night, took some trial and error but its in there. Bringing in new aniamtion was easier than i thought, just had to name things correclty.

    Now that i know that i can get stuff into the game, i will finish the model, texture him and then build a nice rig for animation.

    Will post some more pics tonight.

    I think shape shifting would work, becaue you can turn the dog into other creatures, so im sure there would be a way. There may be a way to use blendshapes, and some blended textures, so i could create a half dwarf/half whatever for a transition. That would be cool.

    Shapeshifting the character is not possible yet, currently only works with pets. They might maybe probably implement it later on (i hope)

    Ive run into a problem and not sure how to fix it.

    I have installed the new torchEd, and now i cant get my guy back into the game. I can get the character into torched and the animation works, but when i open the game it either freezes or crashes.
    Im not sure if it because of the new torched or something i have done. I might reinstall the old version and see if that helps.

    I think it could be do do with the "unit editor" as the "resource directory" doesnt like to point to the mod folder.

    anyone have any ideas?

    i had the same problem - custom weapon model/skill works in (latest)editor , crashes the game.
    Solved it, by using the editor(starting it up) to generate all the .adm/.cmp files, then it works in the game too.

    Update.

    I finally got it working again. He is now in the game.

    Still simple textures, and havent figured out getting a weapon in his hand yet. That seems to be casueing crashes and errors.

    hey.. that looks awesome
    could it be that some random crashes are caused by old compiled data not being properly updated?
    There is remove_binary.bat file in mod folder that suppose to clean the old binaries when you update .dat files, I know they had some problems detecting changes (and when to updated binaries) in .dat files

    cheers.

    Ive been able to get a weapon in the right hand, but the left hand is casueing errors.

    Im calling the right hand locator "tag_righthand", and left "tag_lefthand". Right is fine and works perfect, creating the left hand one exaclty the same way gives errors. Not sure why. I'll do some more trial and error stuff. maybe the nameing meant to be slightly different.

    UPDATE.

    Im got my dwarf back into the game and added some animations and a new skill. FIREBREATH.

    Firebreath basically shoots out flames from his mouth. Ive added custom particles and animation for this.

    The next step is to clean it all up, and get some custom armour and texures.

  • Maybe a zoom in picture while the game is paused will be better =)
  • for video try camstudio, it's freeware and should work w/o problems in windowed mode or at least the editor

    cool thanks. will give it a try over the weekend.

    is it wrong for a dwarf the where a kilt? was thinking of updating the model and texture if i get time on the weekend.

    anyone have some ideas on some unique skills. I was trying to keep with the beer drinking, fire breathing theme. Maybe something like 'Bar brawl", does some crazy, reckless fist fighting.

    I use Maya for modelling rigging and animating. There's no rendering it's just in game footage.
  • I just wanted to say that this guy looks amazing! Dwarf is my favorite fantasy race and when i saw this i got giddy lol. Your doing a great job and i cannot wait to give this guy a go for real when he is finally finished. thanks for all of your hard work.
  • Very promising work so far. I like the idea of drunk boxing style. Would really make this a unique class. He reminds me of karnov :D

  • been quiet here for a while, but i do like this character...had me thinking of skills and play styles....have you given a lot of thought into the skills for this guy? great job by the way! I like the whole new looking character vs ones just copied and new skills added. im excited about this one.

    Was thinking about this guy just now, and didnt see many talent ideas or maybe i skimmed to fast. but since he is going to be a belcher, maybe have the talents be him swallowing something and have the breath attacks be different per skill? and have a tree concentrate on those types of attacks? and since he is a dwarf he is going to need a mean melee tree, whirl wind attacks and axes and hammers, big powerful attacks smashing of the ground and whatnot. also for a pet maybe have it be a type of golem or elemental, they were born out of the earth so i can see that fitting quite well. i'm just trying to get the ball rolling, i cannot wait to get this lil guy installed lol.

    Looks really promising and I really like it!

    My idea for a skill is a bit complicated ... I have no idea if you have the ability to make it but anyways I will share it :]
    I'm thinking of a spin attack ... lets call it Whirlwind' -- the dwarf spinning around, smashing and throwing away everything around it ... and maybe make it moving in some direction. Would be nice :]

    Anyways -- I wish you the best of luck with this!

    Just an idea for the model... There are those undead dwarves on (fortress?), and maybe you could incorporate some of their visual traits into your class. They have a nice squarish, thick beard, that fits the overall cartoonish feel of the game very well. Also, if you're looking to make it more TL-like, maybe exagerating the proportions a bit more would help. Maybe a slightly bigger belly, or maybe making a smaller head, that's sunken amid a sea of beard. Just ideas, though, the project is yours, right?

    Oh, and for skills, maybe you could make a skill where he drinks his a** off. This could work like an aura, where he gets a little bit lower attack/cast speed and greatly increased damage reduction. And you could also condition his drunken boxing and fire breath to it (as in, he can only spit fire if he's got alcohol in his veins). Not exactly exemplar behavior, but then again, just ideas.
