Wands and Staves -- Anyone Use Them?

I have always played a Marksman (with traps), but would like to branch out. I think I understand what a melee vanquisher is. But is there a third kind? Does anyone use wands and staves (i.e. ranged weapons) and build up Magic Weapons Expertise? My first experiment, which never got beyond Level 12 or so, seemed to show that wands/staves are just inferior kinds of pistols/rifles (no benefit from ricochet, for instance). (I'm not a ****. I play at VH, but I don't especially want to be dying a lot or needing ten minutes to kill a few skeletons and zombies.)

    When I play a trapper Vanquisher I often go wand/shield and pump Magic and Def. Staves are elemental melee weapons and I don't melee when I'm a trapper. Lightning bomb scales 150% with Magic, so if you're going to be using lightning bomb, it's worth going the Magic/Wands route.

    Arbiter and Rogue vanquishers can pretty much wield Anything. It's only really the marksmen who have to stick to physical ranged weapons.

    For wands/staves to get awesome, you have to build up your Magic Attribute instead of Dexterity. Until you get to Leonardo's Conundrum (huh?), the most powerful wand in the game, which is all physical. Not sure, but I think that is the conundrum.

    the 'third kind' will be summoner. all 3 classes have trees for ranged,melee and summoning. but each class has a specialisation. destroyer-melee,vanq-ranged,alch-summoning. other builds are also tried but these are the easiest lines for each class. now a summoner vanquisher will focus mainly on traps instead of using them for support and put points in pet mastery,charm mastery,traps,etc.
    about wands...they are actually better than pistols due to their elemental focus. for some reason(unknown to me) monsters show less element resistance in the combatlog than physical resists. but wands are not used by vanqs bcoz we use skills a lot more than the left-click attack and vanq's skills require pistol in hand.
