Hi @all,

I want to present you today 10.11.09 :

"TorchCam Steam"

and

"TorchCam Runic"

version 0.5b!
for Torchlight v1.12b!

Big personal thanks to a honorable forum member who made this possible... Thanks bud!

TorchCam is a stand alone tool to enhance your view possibilites in Torchlight´s game world and can change your game experience and playstyle. Its a consolebased application, nothing fancy but functional and coded in C++.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< TorchCam in action (youtube) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Whats new in 0.5b?
1. works with Torchlight 1.12b
2. broken Steam TorchCam fixed
3. made mouse edge detection optional
4. MOUSEDEADZONE ->new ini setting... mousedeadzone for middlebutton turnaround. (default:25)
5. standard zoomout behaviour in fpsmode removed...

Whats new in 0.5?
1. Change your Keybinds for your personal taste in TorchCam.ini.
Note: TorchCam.ini must be in the same directory as TorchCam, if not you get standard keybinds.
Please have a look into virtualkeycodes.txt for keyreference.
2. FPSmode // Overviewmode: With ¨N¨ you can switch to FPSmode (different cam angle)
Hit N again for Overviewmode.
3. Screen Edge Detection now calculated with prozentual values
4. Turn around with middle mouse button. The standard functionaltity is deactivated,
but when you press ¨N¨ to get into overviewmode you reset the viepoint to standard values.
5. You can set the rotationspeed in ini as you like. (lower is faster.)
6. You can now click objects properly, even wide zoomed out.

Features:

Two different movementmodes(cameramodes):

FPS mode:
Zoom into charview, change with LEFT / RIGHT the direction (the camera) and walk with UP key.
Note: in this mode the cursor is locked in front of you. You cant move the cursor with the mouse when you walk.

Screen Edge Detection mouse mode:
Toggle this ON / OFF ingame with the HOME key. Now you can change direction(the camera) when you bring the mouse to the left or right screenarea.
You can walk with UP key, here is the difference the cursor is not looked, you walk in the direction the mousecursor points to.
You can prevent directionchange with LeftShift pressed, so you can sort your inventar and look for your stats.

Zoommode:
With PAGEUP // PAGEDOWN keys (thanks for suggestion!) or with mousewheel
Note: You can zoom wide out of the gameworld... Please do not zoom too much out, firstly you cant see anything because nothing is rendered and last but not least: it can crash the game.
Note: Do not change your screenresolution if TorchCam is running, this will break the mousemovment ingame.
Please terminate TorchCam and simply restart it after resolution change.

Usage:

1. Download TorchCam (Steam or Runic).
2. Extract Rar archiv in a subdirectory for example TorchCam.
2. Start Torchlight
3. Load Game
4. ALT+TAB out of the game (if you have the game run in Fullscreenmode)
5. Start TorchCam
6. ZOOM and Turnaroundmode is enabled by default.
7. Play (Choose Mousemode with HOME)
8. To terminate TorchCam press END button... Dont forget this, this recreate the original behaviour of the game.

I wish you lots of fun and ím ready for your suggestions and please write possible errors.

Thank you
CU brotkohl

Does not work. END key crashes the game, others simply have no effect.

I think it would be a good idea to send your source code to one of the runic developer so they can release it as a mod for all flavors of Torchlight!
Of course you will get the credit for the mod.

If not then maybe one of them can make one for the community! :)

This is great, tho it keeps zooming in to default view every time i hit a mob, causing the screen to zoom in and out really quickly...kinda annoying. Now I wish I could use WASD keys for movement lol. Still, a great start, as it gives me the ability to really see what some of the mobs look like, get some great screenshots, and see more of the area i'm in. VERY cool...hope you get it working for other clients and keep working on it!

I am a bit slow now, but can you tell me what's the use of this? It allows for a greater zoom in/out and that's it?

This crashes my game with I Alt+Tab out. Also, can you include keyboard support for those without mousewheels? Thanks and nice work!
  • I can see myself using this easily.
    Thanks.

Though, I was expecting a recording thing xD; built just for Torchlight.
All my avatars and 2Dgraphics are done on Photoshop CS3, and done by myself.
  • still not workin for me =/ it says all the values arent found then says closing TorchCam now =(

You can zoom in and out ->for FPS style play, or more overview.
You can rotate the camera around your char freely.

With the new build you can even walk with the UP key on your keyboard.

Hopefully this is fixed with the next version... later today. ;)

They have the source, if they want this feature in... a little bit codechange in a minute -> your FPS style TL.
I must dig deep in the code to get the values out...

  • I'm confused why this wasn't added from the get-go. Maybe not FPS view(which does sound interesting.. delving into the dungeons in first person, I'd love to see Ordrak up close and personal while he's butchering me on and very hard...(but what about all his minions creeping up on me... radar on map would be too discombobulated. maybe why they didn't include it, doesn't make sense to actually delve or play this way for longer periods of time.. does increase suspense though hehe, and difficulty) But as far as the spinning around your puppet, this just seems like a d'oh moment. However I'm sure there's a good reason, I just can't think of it at the moment!! So until than, keep it up bud! Can't wait for your build today! (not very interested in walking with keyboard, but the prospect of spinning the character might be interesting.)

How much will the overview map not spinning effect your sense of things? is it even relevant? I guess I can't picture it atmoment.
  • thanks a lot this has made the game that much better works great with my version of steam torchlight. **** you Dragon Age

Hmm you can even completly shutoff the overview map and find the way by your own... :D

  • Unfortunately it doesn´t work correctly here... :| I can zoom in/out, rotate the camera... This work´s fine.

But... When I zoom out, I can´t interact (talk to NPC´s, attack enemies...) anymore! When I zoom in to default zoom it works... I hope all will work perfectly with V 0.4... ;) Anyway, nice mod, and thanks for the hard work until now! :)

Mouse control mode is absolutely brilliant, it's a total shame if this can't be pulled off ingame when the editor's released. It would quadruple the type of mods being made. This and multiplayer... man, it could be awesome.

The camera mod makes my game run pretty ragged though. The framerate and audio start to skip as soon as I load up the hack.

Video of the TorchCAM in action on Runics version of the game!

  • 0.3a on non-steam version:
    AllocBase:f20000
    ZOOM value not found...
    Turnaround value not found...
    I terminate TorchCam now...

Any idea what's wrong? Would having another (different) game running in the background mess this up?

  • TorchCam updated!

I will now have a look into the viewrange values...
    Have fun.

    This is absolutely fantastic!

I knew somebody would be able to do this . I think edge screen tracking is perfect for this game. Thankyou so much for adding this function.

I do have one question, when in mouse mode, can I still click to move, attack monsters and so on? Cause I love the game controls just the way they are, I just want some way to rotate the camera (and edge screen tracking seems to be the perfect solution).

    same here...

Workaround: After loading TorchCam you must zoom totally in, then the cam change direction and look to the side where you come from.
After that you can zoomout even more and all is clickable.

Can somebody please "retranslate" this "bad sentence" in proper english? That would be great, i could post it in the first thread. Thank you.

    Sure, you can!
  • works for me. If you could make it so it would activate when you pressed the middle mouse button i would love you even more. Also , listen to demanding me :D is there anyway to make the activation buttons different for those of us who use a laptop. If you cant do either of these its not a biggie, still awesome mod

one is in the works. its close. and he also mentioned to me that he is hoping to eventually make it have a INI file you can edit for the key bindings of your choice.
  • That is arsesome it is best mod ever, for me anyway. Actually after i realized how it works the camera is perfect.
