Runic, please bring Torchlight II to GOG.com

I recognize that Torchlight 2 is already available DRM-free through your service (and maybe even on Steam, depending on if one views it as DRM or not), but I believe there are still thousands or even tens of thousands of people who would like to own the game through GOG.com. (The wishlist entry has nearly 7,000 votes - http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/torchlight_2 ) I hope, especially with the official release of GOG Galaxy soon, this will become reality in the near future.

  • I'd buy it for a second time on Gog. One of the problems though with games that require key activation is Gog distributes the same key for everyone, and then if anyone wants to play online they have to contact customer support, which kinda defeats the whole "drm-free" thing. So it'd be nice not to see that happen with Torchlight2.

Actually that'll be the third time I purchase it because I'm about to buy a German hardcopy for collection purposes.
  • Totally want to see this happen.
If this game is already DRM free, is there a reason why it isn't happening?

Strictly speaking, it's not already DRM free.
The first time you run the game, there is a registration requirement, where you enter a serial key and have the game "phone home" to Runic to unlock the "demo" (which is what the game is counted as before you enter the key).
After that, you can play single player and multiplayer over a LAN without any online requirement. Playing multiplayer over the internet will require a connection to Runic's multiplayer lobby service (which relies on your serial key being valid).
It's fairly light and unintrusive as far as DRM goes, but it's not DRM-free.

  • I thought I'd bump this as GOG is currently testing Galaxy multiplayer via an AvP Classic 2000 giveaway - http://www.gog.com/galaxy (11 hours left) - so I hope Runic is working towards a GOG release of TII with Galaxy multiplayer capabilities. :) http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/torchlight_2 - closing in on 7,000 votes.

Yeah we waiting GOG release :) I will buy second time from GOG . These days many Steam exclusive game released for GOG because Galaxy is coming . It's victory of DRM-free gaming .
  • Game is nearly at 7,300 votes - http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/torchlight_2 :)

I think the whole demo thing is kinda pointless given all the gameplay videos that are out there and understand that there are a lot of people prefer going through GoG but if you want really light DRM you can just go just through Runic. I can understand why this might not be something they're rushing to do.

Considering the first game is on GoG? I don't see a reason why the second game shouldn't be, barring Perfect World saying no.

I could be wrong, but some part of me wonders if Runic is waiting to see how GOG Galaxy does once it's released. I could see that getting integrated into a GOG version of TL2 (if such a thing is in the future).

I don't see why it shouldn't be either. Just saying I can understand why they wouldn't rush to toss it on there that's all.

I don't. They just put out a Mac port and there are rumors of a Linux port. Strike while the iron is hot, as they say.

I've been waiting for a DRM-Free version of this game ever since it was released. It is also highly requested by the GOG community and there are also a few people on these forums asking for a non steam version, after more than 2 years I would still be very happy to pay full price for this game.

I'd totally toss another $20 at Runic if they brought this to GoG.

Could anyone at Runic please give an answer about this? There's a high demand for a DRM-Free version of this game, why keep holding back?

EDIT - I just wanted to point out what the release of a DRM-Free Torchlight 2 means to the GOG community: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/humble_indie_bundle_14

I totally missed the opportunity to buy at least one copy of that Humble Bundle. Still, I was hoping to get DRM-free version, but afterwards the game just gone. It is not available either on HB Store or GOG. I really want to get DRM-free version and I hope you will release it once more for some summer sale.

I just want to echo the sentiment here. I love Torchlight 2, and would love to purchase a DRM-free version on GOG. Any word on how progress towards releasing this DRM-free version on GOG is going?

I saw that you have sold the game DRM-free through humble-bundle. Personally I'd buy it even on your website. Unfortunately for mac you have not sold a version drm-free, only steam.
But since you have put the first game on gog I do not understand why this distrust in putting the second...
Would not it be easier and more convenient for everyone?I wait patiently for a while 'for years now (first version for Mac, now for that mac drm-free (or even the website version))

The DRM-free HB edition has a mac version.
Torchlight 2 Rapid Respec - Putting the "hack" in "hack-n-slash"
StashNinja - INFINITE Stash for Torchlight 2
NullMod - Play together in the same multiplayer game with different mods!

I did not know, on the news that they had written for linux and mac you had to use steam (or so I understand, maybe I misunderstood because I'm not a native English speaker).
Too bad the DRM-free HB version now no longer for sale (or I misunderstood too?).

I would assume it has to do with good business relations between Runic and the guys at Humble Bundle.

Well, we partnered with them to do the ports for Mac and Linux. Can't say what it will be like in the future, but for now it's only available from HB.

So three months have passed since last words on this subject.

I am eagerly waiting for release of this game on GOG. i already have it here, alas, I have lost my account details and my game installation is gone with old hdd. Anyway, I have tons of game to play now and don't want to distract support with this my issue, but I would most definitely buy Torchlight II again if it is released on GOG. I greatly enjoyed this game, its memorable bosses (Artifex, genie, etc.), memorable music (e.g. music in late part of Act 3 forest) and it'd be great to re-experience it again.
