Basement Mini-Dungeon v1.2

This mod adds the Basement, a new, single level mini-dungeon that can be accessed from town. It's small dungeon that you can run through in a few minutes, but it's also randomized, so there can be dozens of different configurations.

Story
Rumors abound of a mysterious cult of alchemists that used to have a secret base of operations in the town of Torchlight. Legend says their alchemical experiments went awry, which led to their own destruction. For some reason you've never noticed this before, but it turns out there's a cellar door underneath an abandoned house. Could this be hidden lair of the Blue Ëmber Cult? (Yes.)

Features
So, Torchlight's dungeons are composed of large "chunks" that offer more varied environments and great visuals. And that's cool. But recently I found myself missing those old-style dark and dank dungeons filled with rectangular rooms and twisty passages, all alike. That was the inspiration for creating this mod.

- The basement is always only one level deep and made of 3 types of chunks: an entrance, exit, and middle section. Currently there are 5 entrance, 4 middle, and 2 exit chunks. Most of these also have randomized areas within them. The dungeon is volatile, meaning that it's re-randomized each time you enter.
- There are two mini-quests, one in each of the exit chunks.
- The basement is populated with a randomly-chosen selection of monsters, picked from several spawnclasses (Mine monsters, Dwarf monsters, etc.).
- The monsters are scaled to your level, so hopefully they should provide some challenge no matter what level you are.
- There are a few new monsters, including the Phantom (which uses an unused Specter model) and a few other things I cooked up.
- I'll probably add more chunks if the inspiration strikes me. If anyone else is interested in making some, they're welcome to! If so, I could release some basic information on how the chunks fit together. (Although it should be fairly obvious if you examine them.)

New in version 1.2 (23 May 2010)
- Added one new end chunk, for a total of three. The new chunk includes a new mini-quest.
- Added Spell: Doom Ring. This spell creates a trap-like ring that explodes when enemies step on it. This spell is found by completing the new mini-quest.
- Various small additions to existing chunks for more flavor and variety.

Installation
Simply drop the "BasementMiniDungeon" folder into your mods folder. The basement entrance should appear in town (see picture below).

Compatibility:
Requires Torchlight v1.15.

Note: Currently this mod won't load in the Mac version of Torchlight. I'm pretty sure this isn't my fault. I will make an alternate Mac version of the mod that excludes imagesets, as soon as I'm sure that everything else in 1.2 is working fine.

This mod should not interfere with or alter any other parts of the game. The basement entrance is added to the town via a merged layout, and everything else (the monsters and the new skills and particle systems they use) are new files with new names that should not overlap anything else.

I can't guarantee compatibility with other mods that make sweeping, overriding changes to items or game systems. So don't complain to me if you're level 999, and this thing is unbalanced!

Thank you, and please report any bugs or problems! Please consider this mod kind of in beta, and let me know if... uh... the game crashes.

Is that a new tileset or is it a mix of the default like your other mod?

Looks great.

Yeah, it's just existing tilesets remixed, with some creative lighting to make it look different. For example, the floor tile is just from the lava tileset, but with lighting to make it look gray or blue instead of red.

Good to hear you guys are enjoying it. Yeah, the entrance is on the south east side of the town center. It also has an icon on the automap. By the way, can anyone explain to me what determines what icon something gets on the automap? Because I've been trying to get the "Stairs Up" warpers in my dungeon to be arrows pointing up, but they always appear as arrows pointing down.

By the way, please report if your game occasionally crashes when trying to load this dungeon. I'm trying to figure out what's causing this. If you do get a crash, don't freak out, as your character will be fine when you restart the game.

well,this is a great MOD,but i encountered some troubles.
i'm a chinese player, not good at english,so try to understand what i say:
When i using my level 50 character enter into basement everything is fine, either graphic performance or random performance is perfect.
however, some errors come out when i starting a new character step into basement, they look like some graphic issues, the terrain texture displayed incorrectly.water ponds, trees, stone stairs appeared in basement but arranged rulelessly.i have no idea why this happen, when i restart game the loading screen frozen.
will play this mod when bugs are fixed, thanks for the mod.. :)

ps:i have tried again,my lvl50 character encounterd the same proplem,so i think such phenomenon does not depend on character's level.

Wow, I'm not sure what could be causing this. I mean, there aren't even any trees in this dungeon, so why would they show up? If you could take a screenshot and show me what it looks like, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for showing that to me. Those pink rectangles are supposed to be a "grass" particle effect, but I had forgotten to include the custom texture files it uses.

I have uploaded a new version of the mod with the image files in it. You can follow the same download link and replace the old version with the new one.

Believe it or not, the rocky floor texture and giant mushrooms in that room are supposed to be there. In hindsight, perhaps it does look kind of weird, but I was trying to add some variety to the random rooms. Anyway, thanks for helping me to fix the particle thing!

This is my favorite mod. great!
There is another minor problem i noticed.
sometimes character step into basement will appear in the center of the map directly instead of basement stairs where the character is supposed to be.
i'm not good at english,so in order to explain clearly,i also captured a screenshot:
Image

Please pay more attention to the minimap,it shown the location i came in just now,due to i have not explored the entire map yet minimap just displayed environmental details arround me,no basement stairs in the map just because the character was sent here by system directly.

Oops, I investigated this, and it turns out my player entrance node was not set properly. I uploaded fixed version of this chunk (with some extra decorations as well). Thanks again for pointing that out.

Thanks for the complements, guys. I'm currently working on a little expansion to this mod. It will add a third exit chunk, including a new mini-quest. It should also include a new spell scroll that I'm currently testing. Expect it within a few days.

Is there supposed to be some sort of special "note" or scroll on each visit to the basement? On my latest venture, I saw one of the usual books but there was no indication that it was 'clickable' (well, other than the sparkly thing that items get to show you they're "worth something" - hope that made sense, haha). At first I was a little disappointed but, really, it's just too much fun to go into when it changes every time but it did make me wonder.

This sounds too good to pass up but one question does it conflict with any other modes?
I don't have any mods that change the game for maps.
If it dosen't conflict with any modes I'll be glad to run through it a few times and see what I can get :)!
BTW sounds like a really fun map mod :)!

So far, goro3d, it doesn't seem to conflict with any other mods. However, I only have prestige's Starch/Leviathan mod running besides this Basement one.
