[APP] Play Torchlight w/ your Gamepad

Hey folks,

There was a post on the forums (http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12373) discussing alternative control schemes for Torchlight / ARPG's. Got me thinking about how Torchlight would handle using a PC gamepad Decided to find out for myself and wrote this little utility last night!

It's a bit clunky at the moment, but the functionality is there - Just needs some tweaking! I'm building a keymapper so that you can customise the gamepad buttons to your own preference, as well as setting little extras such as cursor speed and maybe some basic macro functions.

This was coded in Autoit and created and tested in Win Vista OS with my crappy, cheap PC gamepad. Not sure how it'll handle in other OS's, and with other gamepads - not had anyone to beta test yet, so hopefully some of you guys will be my guniea pigs

How to use? Simply download and open "TGP.zip", then open it up and run "TGP.exe". The autility will sit on your taskbar minding its own business - then Open up Torchlight and (hopefully) start harvesting phat loot with your D-Pad!

Please note, Autoit is notorious for false positives when it comes to AntiVirus software. But don't panic, this file is clean!

Mapping TL with a Gamepad would probably be 4x easier if it used WSAD keys instead of the mouse. I'll keep a eye on this and see how it turns out.

Yeah, I've been thinking about how to port Torchlight over to a system using a gamepad, and aside from the WSAD issue, my big question is how well you'd be able to aim ranged attacks. I think it would work great for the Destroyer, though.

a few months ago i got torchlight to work on my Logitech rumblepad 2 controller using xpadder and it worked great. The only thing that is difficult is remembering where you put all your skills.

I have a program on my computer that is pretty similiar to this, I used it to switch the mouse function to the analog sticks on my xbox controller for a few games. I think the name of the program is autokey. Anyways, you can probably have some sort of script running that has the left click function constantly clicking every half second or so to simulate moving around when you push the analog stick but then you run into the problem of having to have a modifier build in or a switch to have the left click tirn off when you want to manually click on loot. Just thinking of some ideas off the top of my head. This could be a fun project to see where you can take it, but at the end of the day mouse and keyboard will just end up working better because the game was designed around that.
