Epic Maps

Epic Maps as suggested in the single player discussion forum. I opted for not too -huge- and only did x3. It's trivial to change the numbers and increase the mob spawn though. I felt it was fairly tough at this though, but, that might be cause I suck at the game xD.

Just download, and extract to %appdata%\runic games\torchlight\mods\

It will create an NEEpicMaps folder containing all the edited files.

If you want to edit the values yourself to try and balance it out more, just open the .dat files, fiddle around, and then delete the .adm files before testing.

The files in 'units\items\maps' control the items on the merchant, their value, and rarity, etc.

The files in 'dungeons' control the behavior of the dungeon, the layouts and levels and such. I simply multipled monster density and champ spawn by 3 to create a more challenging random dungeon.

heh, i trippled those values which made for epic-epic maps, some rooms were completly filled with monsters which made for much fun killing them all with devastate and fast leveling, would definetly reccommend to have plenty of potions though.

at times when the there were many monsters and effects onscreen, the monsters would blink, so wouldnt reccommend to have too many monsters in a map. though nine times more then normal should be enough for anyone.

wouldn't this be called cheating?as you lvl up so fast and get items so easily...anyways good mod

It's not like they're spawning in your inventory. You gotta FIGHT for them! :mrgreen:

i've tweaked some settings and made it even harder, i can't advance 15m without chugging potions, recasting zeds and stuffing my pet with fish :lol:
your mod worked at the first try, great =)

So the mobs are already multiplied by three after placing it in the mod folder? I've tried it and I haven't noticed anything new with a new character, perhaps I need to delve further into the dungeon.

If you've installed the mod, make sure you're purchasing 'Epic' maps from the vendor. Otherwise you'll just go to the normal dungeon maps.

this is my code for the epic palace map, i also enabled portals so i could actually sell the stuff i found, though i only picked up enchanted and better.

the second floor becomes filled with monsters and bosses, so i had to constantly chug potions, fun tho :lol:

also, if the epic maps doesn't show up for the merchant, go to a dungeon and back again so they restock their goods

After going through it once it seemed like they dropped worse stuff then normal, had maybe 3 rare items rest were magic the entire time.

Drop rates aren't really affected by this. They should be fairly standard. Might seem different just because there's so many more.

hey so would there be some way to edit this to make "Godly Maps" that say, had the normal monster spawn rate from regular torchlight, but was 50% or more boss monsters? or even all boss monsters?

I played around with the files a bit, but I couldn't change the fact that each boss had an own room. Maybe i'll eventually find out, or maybe someone else...
Once TorchED releases, we will be able to do this for sure.

Love this. First one I ran took me an hour or so to get through, and I went from level 32 to 53. Then jumped into another one ... yeah, it gets a lot harder in the 50s. Had to work on getting my gear up to spec before I could survive without dying every minute. Great fun!

This this kinda bugs on me. I had to remove it because of lag issues. No big deal, But now it seems that any map I buy off the Vendor doesnt randomize the tile set, Im stuck on the purple floor 1.

Second note - that lets say, I die in a map scroll dungeon now, and I opt to go back to town, buy pots, and grab another scroll, It puts me back in the same dungeon.

Would someone else please try to confirm this? Just to make sure that its not just an issue with my machine.

Also valid note is that I have or have had any other mods installed. Ill fraps a vid to show also.

No, im pretty sure that the dungeons are susposed to be random, on tilesets and rooms. Go look at Tarn's(I think its Tarn, the guy lower left of the town) His, dungeons work as it should. It makes no sence for map scroll to hold the same tile set, if every other dungeon is randomized.

anyway here is the video, you can see at the end on the mini map that its the same dungeon. Even tho, since I bought another map, it should be a new, randomized dungeon.
