on windows
click on the Start button on your taskbar
then in the search or run box type
%appdata%\runic games\torchlight
a folder explorer should come up
look for a folder named
mods
put all mods in the mods folder
I don't have a sig

Nope, searching with win explorer shows no mod file at all using your string nothing either, My copy was installed from the PCGamer disc then activated thru Runic and I run Win 7 64 bit if that helps, also, there is an odd file in explorer under the runicgames/torclight file called PAK, the folder icon looks like a zip file and it seems to contain most of the actual game but still no mod file any where in c:/programfiles(x86)runicgames/torchlight :x do I need to reinstall from some other location? id hate to lose my level 20 guy  thanks for all help!

%appdata%
is a windows "code word"

windows will translate this code word to a folder name that depends on what version of windows you have

like %computername% on your pc will give something different than on mine
and %username% on your pc will give something different than on mine

what %appdata% really translates to depends on if you're using xp, vista, vista 64, windows 7 or windows 7 64

i don't know what it is on Win 7 64
but windows itself knows and will translate it correctly

so all you have to do it type %appdata% in the box and it will show up

on vista 64 if i type %appdata% in the Start button box this come up
C:\Users\jamesl\AppData\Roaming

you have to do it through the Start button because the windows search function is STUPID beyond belief
the way you're doing it windows is searching for the actual word %appdata%
the way I'm doing it, its smart enough to search for the folder name that %appdata% translates to

if you still can't find it see if you can get a a MS Windows console window (not a torchlight console) to come up by running
cmd.exe
then when that comes up type
echo %appdata%

that will translate it for you and show you what the location actually is

another problem is that once you figure out what folder name %appdata% translates to, you may discover that folder is hidden

another annoying "safety" feature of windows

so another (maybe simpler) way is to try this

go to the folder where the game is installed

on my pc its
C:\games\Steam\SteamApps\common\torchlight

in that folder is a shortcut named
Application Data

double click on the shortcut and it should take you directly to the folder that %appdata% translates to
on my pc its
C:\Users\jamesl\AppData\Roaming

then in that folder you should see a folder named
runic games

your saves and mods are in there

Thanks again for the help and reminders 8-) got it in and it works great :D BTW, any one else having same problem, I had recently re-formatted and installed fresh Win7 and forgot to change default dummy settings, in control panel under folder options select "view all folders" and appdata appears with windows explorer right under "users/yourname"

So I'm aware this isn't the newest thread, but I have a question.

Is this mod like, not compatible with the Airbender + Spiritdancer mod? On the default classes, everything works perfectly, and it also works with other class mods. But when I'm playing as Airbender or Spiritdancer, I still get unidentified items and ID scrolls... Which means it doesn't work at all there. In TorchLeech, I get conflicts with the item bases, but I figured it should work because it works with other class mods as well.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Seems like the author of this great mod is not reading this board anymore, so I've decided to make a new version myself that doesn't conflict with other mods dealing with merchants.

I hope you all will enjoy it: http://www.runicgamesfansite.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=567.

Credits to Vagrant for the idea, and of course to nanenj for creating this in the first place! :)

Here's a new conflicts-free version that could interest some of you..

With this one, ID scrolls still won't drop in dungeons, but merchants will now sell them:

EDIT: download link updated!
