Update!

I thought this was a big enough change to bump it to 2.0 instead of 1.3 :D
Here are the changes:
  • Changed the potions entirely to allow for quicker respeccing of larger amounts, without removing smaller potions or adding too many potions
  • Added potions to respec only a single stat
  • Made custom icons for all my potions
  • Lowered the cost of all my potions
  • Fixed a major typo. Apparently it's 'Elixir', not 'Elixer'
  • Updated the descriptions of the potions
  • Minor changes to the Readme
  • Tested saving with negative stats. No damage, still not recommended

I've got a question for everybody that's using this mod:
How do you use this mod? Do you just respec a point here and there, or do you frequently 'reset' your character, reducing all its stats to the starting values and redistributing them? Or do you move, say, 30 points from Strength to Defense to see if your Destroyer can survive longer? That sort of thing.

I'm asking because with your answers I can tune this mod to its userbase better. If, for instance, nobody uses the 50 point respec potion, it's only cluttering up the merchant inventory and everybody would be better off when I would remove it.

You could split your mod into two versions like "Total Respec 100" (for vanilla gameplay with 100 levels) and "Total Respec 999" (for the Level/Skill mod). 100er Version has only potions with 1 and 10 point resets. The 999er version has additional ones with 50, 100, 200 points. Just an idea. Nevertheless it feels a bit strange to have tons of respec potions at the vendor. Respeccing is nothing you do every 5 minutes. Another way would be to add a npc which sells your potions only. There you can offer 25 different potions for every taste.

I could do that. I'd have to look into how many statpoints you can earn with 999 levels, and make respec potions that would be useful for those amounts.
I could even keep the normal 'Total Respec' mod the same (or maybe remove some of the higher-value potions), and make a sort of addon pack for people with the Level mod with bigger potions.

I don't really want to add another NPC to the town if I don't have to. It's getting a bit crowded there already with all the merchant mods out there, and probably more in the future.
Plus, with the Merchant Pack, the general items vendor becomes an apothecary anyway, so it kind of fits :P

This mod doesn't work with the Mac (Steam) version of Torchlight... game crashes on startup (although not instantaneously - it does take a little while)

Any chance of a Mac-compatible update?

Yeah, it crashes on Mac OS. There is an exception recorded in the orge.log too:

Hello, whenever I start the game with Total Respec mod installed, the game crashes. The normal Respec Mod works, but not this one.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

By using a tip from this thread, I updated the mod to no longer conflict with other mods that change the inventory of the General Items vendor.

You got this mod to work ?

I have no other mods installed other than this and no matter what I can't get it to work. I am using Steam copy of Torchlight with the Total Respec mod on Windows XP sp2. I am trying to use this with a character I already was playing. Is that the problem ? I also am not seeing any potion of any sort at the vendor. Are there in game commands we need to perform to get the mod to work ?
