For up-to-date status: Besides this thread we hope, that encouraged TorchLeech user just help us to get up to date by submitting requests (button at top menu). That's a smart and easy way to let us know, if a mod is outdated and must be updated, just with 2-3 clicks. It is not necessary for modmakers to do anything special for TorchLeech. Our tests (if the mod is functional and do not crashes the game...) are the "time sink", not the repack process.

It is enough, that you make mods - the drugs for TorchLeech.

Thanks a lot! This thread should be sticked!!!

Thanks for this tool.
It works great. No need to dl, extract, move .etc... just install.
More mods should support this tool or the other way around !

We will rewrite the download process and use a direct method instead of windows update procedure for TorchLeech 1.0b. Give us a few days to solve this issue next week.

Suggestion, a submit mod button. let people submit mods to ya, IE they pick catagory, fill in mod name, provide link to mod location/forum thread.

There is a submit button, but it is not very good at the moment. It only gives you a single line of text to comment with, which is not very good IMO.
With a full-fledged submit feature you could make it easier on the Torchleech guys by giving them all the important information as well as the download link and forum link to the mod.

I think it could also use an "update all" feature as well as a "check all conflicts" one. It's annoying having to go through each one manually because it has to wait for the website to load every time you select a mod.

I add the link in the comment section whenever I submit mods and a brief note. It is even easier when you have the mod already installed since it makes it a selectable option from the menu.

Yep, thats right. We will re-work the submit feature for the next version because of some strange submits we have got the last days. There should be differences when you only submit a broken mod or a totally new one (with name, weblink...).

At 1.0a you can uncheck the box in front of the web address. This will deactivate the internal webbrowser component and speed up the selection. We are discussing to make "update" and "check conflicts" to work over all installed mods at once. There are some issues like mod makers, which offer new versions with warnings like "transform your pet to dog/cat, before you update my mod". At the moment you must click on a mod and will see the "website" for it - hopefully with red warnings at front. An "update all" will never get you to a website anymore. Maybe we implement a possibility to display warnings from mod updates.

If you like puzzle games, then sure. Deactivating and then activating a mod again will set it to the highest (or maybe lowest?) priority. There's currently no way to move a mod up one space or down one space in priority.

Version 1.0b released.
Most improvements are results of user feedback:

  • Redesign of "Submit request" form for easier usage.
  • "Update" --> "Update all" and works for all installed mods now (instead of selected one).
  • "Check conflicts" works for all installed mods now (instead of selected one).
  • New "Options" button/dialog to configure game start and proxy settings.
  • New "Start Torchlight" button, will be activate if you have configure start parameter in the options dialog.
  • Windows background download method was replaced with a selfmade procedure.
  • New dialog for set up the load priority of mods (right click on mod list -> context menu)
  • Some minor improvements (error handling, colored list items, smoother search).
The download process is complete new code to fix problems with low bandwith connections and get more status responses. Now you will see the current download progress - a must have for upcoming mods like "Texture Low-Res Mod" with 28 MiB. Important: Proxy server settings must be set in the new options dialog if necessary. If you have the STEAM'ed Torchlight and want to start it via TorchLeech, then just nagivate to the "steam.exe" (for example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe) in the options dialog. The necessary parameters will be set up automatically.

Thanks a lot for you participation so far (and hopefully in the future)!

@thaddeus: It would be nice if you could try the new version with your mobile internet connection. Let me know if the issues are still exists.

In the new version 1.0b make a right click in the mod list for "uncommon" functions like the new load priority dialog. There you can order your mods via drag&drop or buttons below.

Please download TorchLeech 1.0b again (file was updated three minutes ago). A known issue with load priority is not fixed in the first upload (not the correct sourcetrunk). It is not worth to set up a new program version.

Sorry for that guys :-/

You guys are awesome :-)

with regards to the download code you might want to look at adding in bit torrent download support via the private bit torrent network protocols. the original download code would be used as a fall back in case the client does not want to download it as a bit torrent or their ISP blocks the bit torrent proxy.

The advantage of this is that you can significantly reduce your overall bandwidth consumption by allow us to help you distribute new and updated mods with other torchleach users and at the same time this will help ensure that everyone is able to download and update their mods very quickly.

oh and I know that eventually you will be trying to figure out some way to make money off this and will most likely put your own ad banner bar in the program or have it display ads on the main website that opens up when you launch the program. so if you do decide to go down that route and plan to offer an ad free premium version then i might suggest that it should not be more than a one time payment of say $5 to $7. the reason being that the game itself is only $20 so a program to download and update addons for the game should not cost more than half that the amount the game costs.

Thanks again for this marvelous tool.

I just want to point out a very minor annoyance that I have with the version 1.0b (I don't know if it's the "bad" or "good" one, sorry, I will download it again tonight to make sure I have the latest build). In the adress bar of the browser, the third button on the right side of the URL is partially hidden (it expands beyond the window size). If it can help, I'm using Torchleech on a 1024*600 netbook running XP SP3.

@ askjosh: The tool and service will not going to be commercial, no advertising, no banners, no premium accounts, no subscriptions. I hate ads and banners. Some technical background information: The project is a subhosting with no direct traffic limit. Maybe we will recognize a speed limitation (if we break 50-100 GiB/month) - a normal behaviour of most providers and hosting offers. All mods use 0.72% of current available webspace at the moment.

Bit torrent seems to be a smart way but is not easy to implement for automatism. Many issues to handle with seeders, leechers, TL must be runnning in background, vary of speed from really fast to extreme slow and more. First of all we are discussing to implement a simple download mirroring, where TorchLeech can check different locations, if the main mirror has problems. I guess we will find another Torchlight fan who has a hosting few GiB webspace to share, large bandwith (16+ Mbit) with a local webserver or we can work with one of the upcoming community websites together in the future.
