[ITEM] Gold Sharing Service V2.31

Is one of your character overflowed with gold?
Is he/she feeling generous but doesn't know how to share his/her money?
Don't worry anymore, here is the Gold Sharing Service V2.2, your gold is exchanged for scrolls that can be shared with other chars and converted back in gold no loss nor profits in the sharing process.


Just use the portal near the shared stash, use the deposit desk to receive a special scroll and put it in the shared stash. Then wih your other char take it to the withdraw desk to receive your gold back.
This is my first mod, if you found any bug please report back, i'll do what i can.

Edit: a newer version (v2.2) is now available at the same link, changed name to Gold Sharing Service and no more merchant, see my last post for more details (readme in zip too).
Edit2: Version 2.3 released, the scrolls have a stacksize of 10 and you can share 100'000 and 1'000'000 gold.
Edit3: Version 2.31 scrolls not stackable anymore since torchlight can't separate stacked items, changed 10'000 to 25'000 gold and 1'000'000 to 250'000 gold.

Wow, that is a disturbingly creative approach to the problem.

With Increased Selling price mods or even just a high barter skill, won't you just start getting back more than you paid?

Unfortunately Barter has significant impact on prices. Character with 10 lvl Barter skill can easily exploit this and multiply his gold.
Another issue - Merchant is in the same place as shared stash.

I didn't thought of that skill (finished the game once and I only tested this mod on low level). I'll try to find a way so the barter skill won't ruin this mod. If I don't find any solution hum... play fairly :P .

Somebody was actually solving the problem how to override the barter skill for some items, but I can't remember in which topic it was :(
And BTW is there any logical reason to make purse out of gold? Why making it "so" complicated?
Keep it as simple as it can be - for exampl wouldn't it be much easier to create an stackable (100x) item called "Gold ember" worth of 1000gp, which can be bought at Potion/scroll vendor?

The reason is because if you buy it for 1000gp, you'd be selling it back for like 100gp. You lose money on a one for one deal. If you buy three for 1000, then transmute them for something worth 30,000 (since transmuting is free) you can sell it for your original 3000 back. (Those numbers are just an example, I made them up to illustrate my point. I don't know what the buy/sell conversion rate is exactly.)

As I wrote, somebody was brainstorming already over the dilema how to override barter = if he achieve this, it would be possible to buy something for 1000gp and then sell it for 1000gp.
But I understand that now, it can be used as a temporary makeshift.

I don't know of any way to override Barter skill and I think it's impossible, even this mod - Bank of Torchlight is affected.
Merchants and items are not good to transfer money. I thought about creating 2 NPCs with quests - one that gives a quest item for a fixed amount of money, second that gives money for this item. But I doubt it is possible to set gold as quest requirements.

The "brainstorming" as you put it, was someone asking if it was possible and being told no.

It is possible to change ALL sale prices in the game to be equal to the buy prices, but it will affect every item from every merchant (actually, I'm pretty sure that's what the aforementioned 'Bank of Torchlight' does, although I haven't used it). I suppose you could make a mod that did that and only use it when you want to move money around. You could disable Barter completely at the same time if it really bothered you.

I don't think it's that big deal. This mod is a neat idea, but it's not like an inability to transfer gold is a huge problem. I think I'd rather just ask Runic to patch the shared stash so it holds gold.

Hi,

I might have 1 or 2 ideas to bypass this problem, yersterday night I tried a LOT of differents way to solve the "barter" case notably by changing the type of item but it would affect an ENTIRE class so it's not a good option. The closest way of a solution was to change my items to "QUESTITEM" as the barter skill didn't affect this type but alas i found out that I coudn't sell back the "purse"..... I think it's like that since the patch (not sure).

Right now i may have 2 (totally different) ways to solve this problem, but you'll have to wait (i'm at work now ;) ).
The 3rd way is the less pleasant has i can take into account the barter skill effect hence impacting directly the buying/selling price meaning those who doesn't have the skill WILL lose some money (approx. up to 75%), those having the skill maxed losing nothing. Well my little merchant needs to take some "fee/charges" so she can live ;) .

I'm looking why my merchant is in the same place as the shared stash, with one of my character she is in the right place.

Oh, i forgot to ask, what do you think of my mod? Do you think it'll be useful to you? (for the moment not for me 'cause my characters are broke :mrgreen: )

If you actually solve the Barter and price scaling problem for gold pieces without modifying other items I'll really find it useful to transfer gold between my chars. ;)
I've changed one coordinate 69 to 67 or smthn and it fixed merchant's position.

You could balance it out so a Barter skill of 7 or so is neutral. That'd put higher-level characters making a bit less profit, but not totally shaft lower-level ones.

Seems to work well so far. I'm in the same situation you are, though (all my characters are broke), so not much time behind the wheel yet.

Just dropping by to give you GOOD news!!!

After many trials and errors (and bugs too grrr...) my mod is near completion. I've tested separately each parts and it works, still need some testing but all I need is to pack everything up (plus make a little map), do some cleaning and make it pretty (well I need to sleep too). I hope there will be no more unpleasant discoveries (those past days were plentiful :evil: ).

To sum it up, Barter will NOT interfere with my mod (nor any Increased Selling price mods, well i think), if you want to share 4000 gold with another character that's exactly what he/she'll get no more no less (having Barter at lvl1 or 10 won't change anything).

You'll have to wait a bit (one or two days) 'till I pack everything and update my mod.

That's all for tonight.

Edit: i've come to realize that with the way the newer version works i can sell any items/weapons at a set price. For exemple you made a weapon mod but don't want it to drop randomly or buyable at a random cheap price (looking at Barter skill :? ) i can make it sell at any price you want. Of course this method can be applied to every items from the game, but be advised that concerning weapons/armors the price won't scale with its level ( i.e. a 'unique sword of the brave' at lvl1 or lvl50 will still be at the same price well for exemple at 20000 gold be it lvl1 or 50).

Just to inform you also that my (soon to be updated)mod doesn't affect selling/buying price at the others merchants nor are the items in the game(meaning no items graph modified), only when you buy with me :twisted: .

My mod is now UPDATED to version 2.0 and the new name is "Gold Sharing Service" since the merchant is gone.

As i said before Barter is not a problem anymore, the mod doesn't affect the selling/buying price of the items. But there is more!!! the way my mod work can be applied to other ends (need to make a new mod) like buying a specific item at a set price without being decreased by the Barter effect! Or a possible temporary fix to the transmuter as i can require specific items to give you another one (i.e. a gem+ a fish+ a sword = a unique sword) well it's a bit more tedious than the transmuter but it works at least. I really dig this! I made some cosmetic changes though that you might be interested in...

I changed the map display name to: Treasure Vault
I changed the scroll display name to: Treasure Vault Entry Scroll
I changed the description to: The scroll reads: "Upon chanting the incantation you see below, this entry scroll will summon a magical portal through which you will find the vault block allocated to either you or your financier. Within you will find coin to the sum of 4,000, as was entrusted to us. You may retrieve this coin at any time you see fit. Please keep your entry scroll safe, we cannot be held accountable for misplaced or stolen entry scrolls."

Congratulations on making new gold transferring mod. Still there's some small flaw, you'll get more than 4000 gold with Treasure Hunter skill. This is not a problem for toons with level lower than 25.
I was thinking of some kind of solution, but still I'm unsure if it works. What if you could make "Sharing service" a quest item and there would be a quest giver requiring this item and giving 4000 gold as reward?
