Yirkon's Palace (alpha version 1a - December 13 2009)

The Elemental Lord Yirkon is becoming stronger, are you brave enough to rid the lands of his Evil. Only the bravest can venture into his palace and finally his sanctuary to destroy Yirkon.

Features
2 level dungeon
5 new standard palace map chunks that will rotate into normal play. Maps have quest nodes for monsters and items.
1 Boss map
New map available for purchase to transport to dungeon
New floor trap
New electric gates
New palace monster portal
New standard and champion spawn classes
4 New champions
1 New boss with special encounter
New destructible crystals
New Music by Ic3m4n

Updated 12-15-09
Fixed Lord Yirkon's Drops and Experience (He now has both)
Also moved this to beta version since there has been no other problems posted.

There are a number of levers in the dungeon, some of them will be none selectable. They are there when needed for either dying beyond a newly closed gate or when the map appears randomly in reverse play.

Known bug. When the new electric gates get turned off, they may leave a piece of the effect particle. I am still trying to exactly figure out how to fix this. The gate opens just fine and you can pass through, just visually it looks like it still may be partly closed. The gates do not damage you.

I have played this a few times, but with any new mod in alpha stage Hardcore character should not play this without first playing with a non hardcore character first. I do not believe there are any game stoppers, but who knows what bugs may be in it.

place a the file 295031_216_4Torchlight_.ogg in the music directory of your installed game.

Great another dungeon and new set of chunks, it's what this game really needs. I'm gonna test it now.

So this is probably how it works in original chunks also? Especially the ones from the crypt.

Oi, I haven't made it all the way through, but what I've seen so far is great. The design is nice, and the new traps are a nice addition. The new music is excellent.

My main problem is that the level is, in my humble opinion very hard. Granted, part of this is because I am terrible at the game, but I think I have died 20+ times now. I think the major problem is that the Elementals and the Zealots can basically kill you in one hit. To me that's more Runic's problem than yours, but you can work around it by only spawning a couple of those units at a time. I seem to be running into groups of 4 or 5 elementals, when I think probably 2 is the most I can successfully handle at a time.

Yea, I sort of agree, it is a bit on the hard side (sort of why it still is in beta, not sure how others would find it). I go through a bunch of health in there. It was tone down quite a bit during my testing. I try it out tomorrow with a reduction in number and see how it feels.

i might be retarded but . . . how do i play it? should the map guy sell a portal map or do i have to find one in game somewhere or something? :D

The map guy should have it, there are case where it might not be there.

ok I think there is an issue with the map, I can't seem to get one either, let me do some checking.
Edit Checked everything and it looked fine, and then it showed up. not sure what the problem was, maybe just randomness.

Both the standard Gem Seller and Gaspar the Cartographer generate what they sell randomly. Since Gaspar usually sells so many maps (more than the total number of maps available) you can usually find what you want there. As we keep making more maps though it will be harder to find what you want, but you can always run into the shadowvault and back out to refresh his inventory.

So far an awesome map. Using a lvl 12 melee shaman and not having any trouble with the mobs of Elementals at all, difficulty lvl set for Hard but I do have some nice gear from other toons. Thanks for your hard work!

I've finished the first floor and finding it a but hard for my Alchemist, but not impossible. I've died a few times thanks to the elementals but I could have buy more health I suppose. Nicely done so far. Looking forward to floor 2.

I have heard a few people saying its a bit hard, I think next week when I have some time I going to tone it down a bit and then add 4 levels of difficulty to it, so players can choose the level they want.

I don't mind it being a little difficult. I'm a level 54 alchemist mostly with a Lore setup just so you know what type of character I have going through it currently.

Ran it with my 35 Vanq, was a lot of fun. I didn't have a ton of difficulty on it once I figured out that it's either good to have as high of reflect gear as possible or shoot down the elementals as quick as possible :)

The difficulty was perfect IMO.

The same difficulty will be in along with 3 others easy, normal, hard, and really hard. I will let the player decide.

Very clever design, great map I really liked almost everything with this mod. The portals, the design, the traps, everything.
Alas, there were some bugs that actually broke the game for me, so I had to uninstall in the end.

Here's some feedback:

1. There is a huge palace chunk that may affect the normal levels in the following way : Instead of approaching the series of electric fences from the top left to the bottom right, there may be the case of approaching the fences the complete opposite way, due to the random positioning of chunks on a lvl. From bottom to top (due to the random positioning of stairs on each level). In that case, the levers don't work as intended and the final fence on top left is totally impossible to open, even though I tried all the possible levers I could reach on that floor. (the levers needed were on the other side of the fence which were unreachable) Which means the player can't even get to the exit of the level, thus stuck forever, unless he cheats to "descend 1 level" and be labeled as a cheater...

2. I tried Yirkon's palace complete map, bought from the vendor. The 1st floor worked perfectly ok (well it was very hard on 55lvl-very hard(also tried it on hard) I managed to wipe more than 10 times with my vanquisher, even though the champions were relatively few. Probably random. The zealots and elementals are always the problem they oneshot u easily.) but it was cool and a challenge, no bugs it seemed. I entered the 2nd level hoping to fight a boss or something, but there it was the fence. Unpassable and no reachable lever on the floor...

3. I backtracked to 1st floor to check if I had forgotten a lever or something, but the floor had (already!!) completely respawned, thus I had to do everything again from end to beginning. Well I didn't have the patience. No idea if the respawn was random or not. Was probably due to the many deaths that day.

That's it for me, hope I helped.
Tbh, I'd like to have a version without the fences.

PS : I have the underground temple, and aegis maps installed they don't seem to affect the palace in any way.
