My first hall that is somewhat complete.. Still alittle empty need more lights. I've started over so many times. It's pretty much a basic base layout for my level or levels. In it I have alot of things I can use just make other rooms of it.

I think my plan is for a kind of waterly crypt layout

Variation 1

Variation 2

*Edit* dumpt was so simple:)

Yes, at the moment I'm aiming for a random layout, 24x24 tiles. I want to make burning and horror skeletons from diablo. Also alot of work to make it playable with monsters spawns which I really havn't checked out yet, just been doing my leveldesign so far. Hopefully I will have a few playable levels in a few weeks.. Not that I really have the time, but I can always hope:D

Edit: for easy access, it is underthe following: media\layouts\crypt\crypttemplate.layout The same applies to the other strata I imagine.

My goal, by the new year, is to add 2 new chunks per compass type, including exits and entrances.

Hey! I was wondering how do i open my layout and the crypttemplate layout at the same time? Do I need to merge them or something?

yeah, you should be able to merge the template into your level. before doing that though you may want to open the template layout, but everything in a folder called "template" and then save. That way after you merge it it's easier to grab the whole thing and move out of the way if it happens to overlap what you've already done.

Figured this out. Turns out if you run the map in game and then add to it, you'll need to blow away the .adm and .cmp files so it will regenerate them with all the added items.

Well, I finally found my map in the game thanks to Bebop and it fits great with other chunks and doesn't crash, BUT...now I'm having this very same problem with linked items not showing up in the game. The funny thing is, I have 8 torches and 2 skull candles that DO show up in the game and I went back into the editor and I have no idea as to why this is happening. Also, my alternate layout isn't working, either; some parts are showing up when they aren't supposed to and vise versa, but everything runs GREAT in the editor when I test it there. *sigh* I had all my fire props in one folder (candles, torches, etc) and at first I thought that was why they weren't showing up cause of maybe baking or something, so I put them all in the general structural folder with their respective surrounding props - same results. I deleted the ADM and CMP files and tried the level all over again from scratch....same results. Every time I get my chunk, 95% of the particle props don't show up and there are rails blocking the way that should only show up in the variation.

*UGH* I think I figured out my problem with the missing props. Instead of making Layout Links, I made Layout Link Particles for 80 of my lighting props. There is virtually NO recognizable difference except that the LLP has one extra box for ENABLED and they won't show up in the game (even though they show up playing in the editor). The icons of LL and LLP are exactly the same and very easy to confuse. Soooooooooooo...now I have to replace 80 fire props that some took a lot of tweaking to get in place. Most of the candles I had to take down to .001 X snap to get in place. *UGH* *UGH* *beats chest*

Still no clue as to why my variation rails are showing up when they aren't supposed to and vice versa. I keep switching between the two groups of visible true and false and everything is set properly. This is one extremely touchy editor I must say.

Make sure the parts that are in the variations don't have 'Baked' enabled. I made that mistake with the high walls on mine spent a good hour or two trying to figure out why they refused to go invisible. Another potential variable might be the 'Random Type' option on your parent variation folders. I had forgotten that little step of setting it to 'Weighted' rather than all so all my variations were showing up at once causing quite a mess.

For clarification, before I start smacking down ore . . .

Layout Link - Shows up in-game.

Layout Link Particle - Doesn't show up in-game.

Or is it the other way around.

I haven't tested my layouts in-game yet so don't know if they even connect etc. I'm just having fun building them but if something like this is going to come bite me it's good to know about it beforehand.

Don't mean to be pedantic it's just that so many voices is leaving me confuddled. ^_^

Cheers!

That is correct! I had to learn the hard way, but luckily the layout files are text format and you can use the Replace feature in Notepad to change the LLP's to LL's easily. I just changed 80 of them this way and I'm going to test my map in a bit to verify. The confusing part is that LLP's WILL show up in the editor and they have the same icons as the LL's; when you play your level in TorchED - they shouldn't show up there if they don't in the game.

Fun. I can confirm that making lights etc into 'Layout Link' makes them show up in the game.

I just spent seven levels of just 'Mine' layout in the Shadow Vault and then my EW chunked showed up. It was fun. ha.

Anyway, here's a shot of a 1X1_E_Exit I've put together

Spoiler: show

@Theogrim - I'm going with . . . Durance of Hate Level 3, Diablo II. Although Mephisto seems to be a . . . lady? :D

Ive just read that you cant cross 2 bridges like that.. I guess ill just block one with some debris and put a portal.

Looks like lots of us a learning the editor with the crypt tileset. Maybe we could put all our chunks together and make a floor :D

Heh, this is a wicked idea. The chunks might not fit together great design wise, but DAMN the variety would rock!

If everyone made enough chunks for a whole floor (I guess two would be the minimum?) each modder could get their own floor, which may help it flow together better design-wise.

This is a nice idea, it's also easier just giving each mdoer their own floor, ofcourse for those who want, that way chunk size etc doesn't matter. And if someone just have a few chunks it's ok to:)
Would be cool to travel through just so many random levels and probably very different:)

well i call dibs on Mines :D

i plan to release a small booster when i have made 5 chunks (2 down, working on third). (ultimately i aim to add a chunk to every folder for Mines)

it's great having holidays / getting used to the editor.

even just with my own chunks i don't have a 'flow' or 'theme' i just see what shape it wants to be, look at the current chunks, and build from there. ;)
