Encore confirmed that they're still releasing the boxed copy patch, but it's unclear when. Hopefully it will be out really soon, I think it briefly fell of their radar.

Sooooooo....

Any new information? Please understand that I am not trying to piss anyone off, nor am I blaming anyone, but this is a pretty frustrating level of customer support. I suppose my main question is, is the 1.5 patch actually going to be released for the boxed version and, if so, is this kind of delay to be expected from Encore in the future? This really isn't that big of a problem, if they do release the patch soon, as I really don't feel as though I am being left too far behind.

But if Encore decides not to patch the boxed copy, or this looks like its going to take a while (ie: months), is there any way for customers who bought the boxed copy to get a voucher of some kind for a digital copy from either Runic or Steam?

[quote="JediFreeman"]Patch 1.15 is out, you can get it from http://www.torchlightgame.com/download/

Upgrading from 1.12b will NOT require you to reinstall or reactivate your game. You can run the 1.15 installer and it will update your existing installation. Existing characters will still be usable after the patch.

PATCH STATUS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RUNIC GAMES - Now available! http://www.torchlightgame.com/download/

PERFECT WORLD - Now available! http://torchlight.perfectworld.com/download

STEAM - Now available!

DIRECT2DRIVE - Now available!

GAMERSGATE - Now available!

WILDTANGENT - Build handed off to vendor

JediFreeman: Wildtangent now has the game available for download. It's not obvious, but there's a small blurb on an FAQ post that it's been updated to 1.15. For those that purchased game from Wildtangent, the game download page doesn't tell you which version it is but rest assured it's the updated version.

Sadly still no updated patch for the boxed version from Encore. They won't even give an estimated date that they "might" get around to making it. It seems to be the last thing on their list of things to do, lower than cleaning the toilets at the end of the day.

About 10 days ago I contacted Encore and asked when they'd be releasing the patch for the boxed version. I immediately got an automated response saying someone would contact me within 48 hours. I still haven't heard anything else from them, not even a noncommittal response. I've contacted them again to see if they'll respond this time.

I like owning boxed versions of games, but this is really frustrating. I will definitely think twice about buying an Encore-published game again if this doesn't get resolved.

I guess I have to get with the times and buy the downloadable version like everyone else :|

Either that, or maybe we're better off WITHOUT the patch.... :?

I know one thing, I won't be buying anymore games from Encore now that I know what their tech and customer support are like. I also won't be recommending the game to anyone else on Gamespot, Megagames, or Gameinformer.com since Encore doesn't want or need the our business as gamers. Runic needs to choose a better distribution partner next time... someone that is going to support it's customer base in a timely manner.

True, true...and same here, at least as far as buying from Encore. They really dropped the ball - in fact, it's almost like they never wanted to hold it in the first place if you catch my drift.

And, I wonder if Runic Games will try and make things right, since it is apparent that Encore will not release the patch to end users that Runic released to them. I would think that the patch for the boxed edition would be easy to roll out, and I wonder if Runic has any plans to support the people who bought their game but caught a raw deal from a company that obviously can't wait to post the Going Out of Business signs? I know that I, for one, will not buy another game from Encore, or from their parent company, either... and I am going to be quite vocal in my displeasure, both online and among my associates and friends.

Volbard, and the rest of the Runic staff, have been pretty quiet lately regarding this issue, so maybe they're doing what needs to be done...in whatever form that may take. :?

I bought the disc version as well because I like to install and play (or replay) games many years after I buy them. For example some of my favorites are Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Diablo etc, all from the 1990's. Often the companies that made them (Fallout and Arcanum come to mind) are defunct and I definitely want a disc version that stands on its own with no need for internet activation or the like.

The one game I did download and buy, Escape Velocity, shocked me the other day. When I went to install it, I entered the activation code Ambrosia had sent me years before, and the game informed me the code had "expired" and I needed to contact Ambrosia to get a new one. Fortunately the company was still in business, but what if it had departed the scene? Escape Velocity would have become unplayable.

So I am bit disturbed Encore is not being a good corporate citizen about this patch for the disc version. It's one thing if a patch doesn't get made because the distributor refuses to pay for it (Atari and Temple of Elemental Evil comes to mind), but it's even more irritating that a patch does exist, the developer did the work already, but the distributor is not making it available!

Like others here I'm a bit peeved about the lack of patch support from Encore, I prefer owning a physical copy whenever possible, I hate activations and drm's...so I got me a disc, big mistake in this case I guess...so I took matters into my own hands and just went to a (ahem) shady website and downloaded the 1.15 version, its cracked but it works fine and who needs a ferret anyways, I don't feel too guilty about it since I've already purchased the game and gotten hosed by Encore, Runic/Encore need to take a heads up here cause the game is available all over the net for free, potential new buyers/players might be more likely to download a full version for free before being honest and a paying for un supported game from Encore.

Depends on where you downloaded it from. Check the version on the opening screen and if it says version 1.15, then you are good to go.

It states "Patches on this page are ONLY for people who digitally downloaded Torchlight from this site. People who purchased a box copy or who downloaded the game from another site should not download this patch." So where can those of us who bought the game from Gamestop get the 1.15 patch?

It will be available on the Encore page you went to. They are still working on releasing the patch onto their site and should have it updated soon.

Still waiting.......something like a month later?

I would love to think that is that case, but, frankly, I have zero reason to believe that.

I still love playing this game, but what happens when mods start coming out that are incompatible with older builds of the game? Are the people who bought physical copies just out of luck? Isn't the mod community/customization potential supposed to be one of the selling points of this game?

I understand that Runic is a small company and doesn't have an employee dedicated to dealing with customer service issues, but the small company excuse works both ways and they have failed to deliver a fully-functioning product. If they can do nothing to get the newest patches out to those people who purchased the boxed version, there needs to be some kind of replacement deal arranged where we can send in the physical disc or some form of proof of purchase in order to get a free download of the game from the Runic website.

Yeah, actually, I was wondering that myself - although I'd prefer just to send in some proof of purchase as opposed to sending the whole disc. Or maybe even some kind of electronic verification of purchase since (speaking ONLY for myself) "we" registered our physical copies with Encore (or should I say "None-core"?).

Or, even better, just release the patch themselves instead of waiting on Encore to do it. It is becoming painfully obvious that Encore doesn't care about the situation, and since Runic has a patch that they handed off to Encore, it should be easy to just make it available for download, small company or not. If it is the hosting, I am sure that can be arranged; if not, I don't see what the problem would be.

On a whim, I decided to register for Encore's forums thinking that maybe there was something there about the 1.15 patch. Would you believe Torchlight isn't even listed as one of their games? I know, technically it belongs to Runic Games (and thank goodness for that!), but not seeing it on Encore's forums was like a slap in the face...and I'm just a player! This is really beyond ridiculous. I know the Runic staff is looking into this, but still. I really don't think I should need to re-purchase TL just so I can be 'updated'. :x
