to get the settings file
click on the Start button on the taskbar
then in the search or run box type
%appdata%
and hit enter
this will bring up a list of folders
look for a folder named
runic games
then inside that for a folder named
torchlight
then inside is a file named settings.txt
it must be opened in wordpad
change the line
CONSOLE :0
to
CONSOLE :1
save the file and start the game
load your char and press
shift ~
that's shift and the little wavy line ~
then hopefully a console will come up
type
ascend town

if all that doesn't work, create an account on mediafire or sendspace or somewhere you can upload a file
then take your char's save file and upload it there so I can download it and try to unstick it
the save file will be in
runic games\torchlight\save
and will be called 0.svt or 1.svt or something like that
or you might just see it as 0 or 1

I'm on a portal quest, the game crashed just as I was going through the exit portal, now I'm back there and no exit button on the portal, and no monsters to kill me. Woe is me. On steam so not getting a console. Any chance someone could sort me out?

Another place to get stuck, on level 22 while fighting the big boss troll dude, he kept knocking me back until I was in the corner of the room stuck behind a table and some junk, unable to get out.

You *really* need to implement a "/nudge" or "/stuck" function in-game so that it will move the toon a random direction a few inches...imho..

Many thanks for setting this up for me but when I load the character she's still in the same place; portal level with no button on the portal and hence no exit.

EDIT: However, I suddenly realised that I have a fantastic automatic backup of everything on this machine, so I have popped back and grabbed a copy of 0.SVT from 45 minutes earlier and all is well. I will back up my save file before going through another phase portal you can be sure. First time in two years I've ever used the backup feature in anger. Wow.

Edit: Owww but now i can't even start my Game.. When i take out the svt. i can start it. When i'm in the Game i put the svt. file in the Save folder, and make a klick on "Load Character", but it my Game crashes after that.
Please help me!

I removed all my mods, redownloaded your character, unstuck it and loaded it back up
so try it now
put it in the save folder and the start the game

I had to use the "ascend"-command an now everything my stash disappeared

I am also stuck and unable to bring up the console (steam version). I tried rebinding the console to the enter key but no luck. My character is stuck between a pillar and some boulders on a map dungeon. Could someone help me please?

there's no reason that should have happened
are you sure you're at the right stash ?
there are 2 of them
and are you sure you typed
ascend
and not
descend

descend marks you as a cheater and takes away your shared stash from that char (only that char)

Aquila,
do you have the latest version of the game ?
in the earlier version the console didn't work with steam
to see if you have the latest version, bring up the options / setting menu and see if you have a checkbox for vsynch. If you do then you have the latest version. If you don't then you have to update from steam.
Also, are you following the directions for bringing up the console as shown in that huge block of quoted text at the top of this page ?
you say you've remapped the console to the enter key, but there are 2 keys:
KEYMAP_CONSOLEKEY_PRESS :192 // the tilda ~
KEYMAP_CONSOLEKEY_HOLD :16 // the shift key

you can try to unsticj it yourself using the instructions at the top of the page
if that doesn't work, then you could register for a free account at mediafire or sendspace or somewhere
that way you can upload your char file to one of those sites, then PM a dev and ask him to download the file and look at it for you
