memory cannot be "written", error on load

Postby Gravity » Wed Nov 11, 2009 4:14 pm

Hi,
just downloaded, never played the game. Installed with no errors.
On launch, I get this error and it goes no further.

Hey there!
First things first - have you tried running the game with the Safe Mode link in the start menu location?

Hi mate, yep, tried with game's safe mode launch, same error.
Also tried rebooting into Windows safe mode (with networking on, or I got some other error) and no luck that way either. Don't recall error I got then, though.

Hrm, next step is to see if during the failed startup, it managed to generate a log ( that'll get us an idea of how far along it went )

If you start->run
%appdata%

You should be able to browse to Runic Games/Torchlight
If there's an ogre.log file there, would you mind posting the contents?
Thanks!

Is this one a demo download from Runic? Or from another vendor? ( Want to figure out if it's some sort of DRM nonsense )

I downloaded it from runic. The original installer is named "Torchlight12b.exe".
It's not registered yet since I've not managed to open it up.

Other factor, not sure if relevant, my laptop has McAfee Virusscan Enterprise v8.7.0i with 'on-access-shield' and its anti-virus features turned on.

Try adding an exception for Torchlight in your AV software. At your own risk, you can try exiting the game. Temp turn off your AV software, activate/play the game, load into a level. Turn your AV software back on ans see if that helps.

Try updating your Windows XP to Service Pack 3: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Try updating your DirectX 9.0c up to the Sept 2009 Release here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

You can try updating your system drivers and/or video drivers from Lenovo's support website: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... eLenovo.do

You will need to reboot your PC after installing each update.

If you are having technical issues, please include the top half of your dxdiag & your ogre log in your post.
