Over the weekend I reformatted and upgraded my box to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit from XP Pro 32. Since I have never downgraded to an LCD display (the slow “refresh” on LCDs drive me crazy) from my trusty 21” Trinitron I immediately ran into display issues with Win 7 and Nvidia’s drivers not playing nice with CRTs. The new NV drivers force scaling relative to an LCD and Win 7 will not allow me to load the official Sony CRT drivers which would allow access to the NV scaling menu. This led to big issues with native resolutions and Win 7 displaying the desktop and games in a box (not utilizing 100% of the display area – this is a known, reported bug to Nvidia). I was finally able to solve the problems by running the 182.50 (Vista 64) Forceware and everything started humming along very smoothly. Except for Torchlight.
My specs:
Win 7 Pro 64
Intel Quad Q6600 @ 3.4ghz
4 gigs RAM
Nvidia GTX 280
Creative X-Fi Fatality
I run my desktop at 1280 x 960 and game at 1600 x 1200. The issue I began having (Torchlight was the first game I re-installed) sees Torchlight revert to 1024 x 768 whenever I select 1600 x 1200 and hit apply. I tried it both with and without enabling AA. I can select 1280 x 960/AA with no problem. Fearing the driver bug I had been dealing with I hurriedly installed Titan Quest, Borderlands, and CoD 4. All games rescaled and ran at 1600 x 1200 flawlessly. I then tried to change resolution in the Torchlight config file, but it continued to revert to 1024 x 768. All of this leads me to believe that the problem lay with Torchlight.
Any ideas on how to solve?
