I am having trouble using the TorchEd program. In the tutorials, they often say to select one of the existing files(for example, the portal particle effect .LAYOUT file).
However, in my install, there isn't any media folder. Instead, I found that the files are stored in a Pak.zip file. I figure the game extracts these when it loads the game title screen, or something like that.
Unzipping the file in question however, I found all of the files have extensions like "town.LAYOUT.cmp", instead of "town.LAYOUT"
I cannot open a .cmp file, and the editor will only select .LAYOUT files. I tried renaming the file to remove the .cmp from the filename so that I could select it in the editor, but the editor won't display any of the layouts regardless.
I'm guessing these are a compressed file of some sort, but there is no documentation on how to use them in the editor. I also have had no luck finding any of the real Torchlight .LAYOUT files anywhere.
Anyone know what I need to do? I'm trying to learn how to use the editor, but none of the tutorials mention the .cmp extension, or how to work around it. Apparently the editor is supposed to "just work".
I CAN use the editor "file browser"(that useless side window on the right) to view all the .LAYOUT files, but I can't select or do anything with them in that window, so I still have no way to put those into the properties field.
Also, if I manually type any of the paths from the tutorial, TorchEd displays nothing and the object is blank. This is probably because, as said earlier, the actual files have a .cmp extension, while the tutorial file paths expect them to have a .LAYOUT extension.
I bought the game through Steam, and installed the editor through Steam's Tools Tab(came with the game purchase), so I don't know if that has messed up my settings. But it's the default steam install of Torchlight, so I would assume the data would be the same as the game purchased through other means.
