Hierarchical Viewer...

Postby Darkvirii » Wed Nov 11, 2009 10:25 pm

What's it good for? From what I can see, you can actually append whole groups of items for a mod. The only question is, where do I save it once I modified it and what do I name it? Does it have to be a certain name?

you can't save it. it represents the unit type hierarchy which takes code changes to edit. it's just there so you modders can see "what's what"

Are you sure? Because I changed the properties of two-handed rifles and bows to one hand.. After I did so, I placed the file into the media folder of the main mod folder (ie: app data/roaming/runic games/mods/test mod/media and i got it to work once i saved there. The main problem i'm having is that this isn't like the dual wield mod that mumeihito made where he duplicated every polearm and reskinned them as 1-one handed weapons, this actually changed all two-handed weapons to one-handed so there was no more two-handers, only one. This created some problems, i wasn't able to shoot dual wielded crossbows or rifles, the game would instantly crash. I was only able to get a bow and a rifle working (bow in one hand, rifle in the other). Any other combination would crash the game. Also, I wasn't able to get 2-handed swords to attack when their hierarchy was switched to one hand, the character would just run around the enemy. If I tried to attack while holding shift, the game would crash.

Any ideas on this?

Hierarchy Viewer is already usable. Darkvirii got the right idea about where to save the .hie file. But every time you want to modify it, you have to manually load that same .hie file.

I have successfully modified the hiercharchy, thus unit types, for my crafting system. However, unit types may not be the solution to what you are trying to solve. In my case, it works as I thought it would. OTOH for Darkvirii's case, he might be barking up the wrong tree.
