Help with custom particle textures.

So I created a 64x64 image, made what I wanted for the particle, saved it as a dds file under the DXT1 setting, mip maps enabled. Load up the editor, assign it as the texture, made an emitter and the particles are all blank white squares. I even tried saving as DXT3, but to no avail I can't get it to work. So my question is what am I missing? I should mention I have the dds file in my mods folder in it's own custom folder hierarchy.

My path is appdata/runic games/torchlight/mods/mymodname/media/particles/pickups/particlehere.dds

I'm guessing my issue stems from the dds settings? Anyways it would be really nice if someone could shed some light on this. I'm gonna take a look through the documentation again, I may have missed something.

try setting the texture path on the particle to your new texture in your mod, save the particle, then restart and reload your particle system. I don't think the particle textures are getting reloaded if they're in a mod. I was seeing what you're seeing until a restarted and it picked up the new texture. Going on my list of things to get fixed.

Thanks for the reply, great to see developers interacting with the community and even when they're not working. I tried what you said twice and it's still not working correctly.

EDIT: I saved the DDS to the TorchEd particle folder and it works, it'll work till that bug can get sorted out. Thanks again for your time.

I was having this problem too and it was driving me crazy. Sometimes a restart would work, but sometimes is wouldn't. I noticed a lot of the time there were just path problems.

Make sure your mod path is set to your current mod like this:
c:/Documents and Settings/appdata/runic games/torchlight/mods/mymodname

Then make sure everything else, like texture and layout paths are only in this form:
media/particles/pickups/particlehere.dds

I noticed if it had the full path,
c:/Documents and Settings/appdata/runic games/torchlight/mods/mymodname/media/particles/pickups/particlehere.dds
it wouldn't work. It seems like it tries to append the full path to the mod path which is obviously not where the file is.

There is a button in the middle of the top toolbar that says reload with a drop down menu for all, particles, etc.
I think this button works for reloading the textures/particles/etc so you don't have to restart.
