"Four Classes"

Postby TiberiusAudley » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:06 am

There are going to be four total classes in Torchlight 2.

Source. (Interview with Greg Brown, GamesCom)

I'm not sure I feel comfortable with AN EVEN NUMBER of classes. It's too unconventional and inconsistent with other games!

Really, people are complaining about even numbers now? (Do I detect just a hint of sarcasm here?)

Anyway, I think that the number 4 may have something to do with the fact that multiplayer will probably be for up to 4 characters (I know they've said it may be up to 8, but with pets, minions, and particle effects, I think 4 is a better limit), and they probably wanted to match the number of classes to the max party size.

But you know that once people start making mods, the number of classes will jump much higher anyway. Hopefully we'll end up with a prime number again.

Yeah i can really see a party of 4 people in a screen full of mobs being able to do their combat properly. Maybe they will add 8 player support for the modded versions of TL2. I think 4 players fits one screen just nicely.

I heard they were going to make all multiplayer games require an even number of players.
So you can't have a multiplayer game with 3 or 5 people. You can only do 2 or 4 (or maybe 6 if they up that high).

I read the quote in an interview online somewhere. I'll try to find it.

Thats false. There are no requirements for the number of players in a multiplayer game.

I for one think 4 players is about perfect (something the N64 really did a good job on it's part of ingenuity and due to that it has become a standard for most gaming platforms). everyone gets their own corner (on the screen at once it is hard enough in the trailer to see what is happening with 4 players and 4 pets). I like this though because it keeps torchlight modern (warfare 3 buy today jk, darn subliminal messaging)

That's a shame. I was going to make a request that multiplayer party numbers be based on Fourier series analysis.

no actually it is a good thing, say I want to play with just my best friend... not 2 other people (wadzooks man I don't want to have to do anything that I do not feel would be of interest to me).

I think 5 is a better number. That way when you play multiplayer, there is always the odd man out that you can make fun of for not being useful enough to bring.

I heart heads filled with cherry pie. Makes killing them interesting. Like in borderlands. BOOM headshot *giblets fly everywhere*. I think we are off topic now. Chugga Chugga Choo Choo.

To a degree. It depends on your definition of "edible". Anything is edible in a sense, but it's not like you are going to go out to the beach and eat sand, just because you can.

I think that reading Adoomgod's carrots and peas story has really melted some people's brains today.
