Loading time in TL2

Postby rabidwolf9 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:37 am

Just popping in to ask how the loading times (startup and between dungeons/tps etc..) are looking in TL2. I found them quite long in the the original which made going back to town right before going to the next level unpleasant and frustrating to say the least. I would also like to know how are they affected, if at all, by mods since I will most likely be sporting them again. I'm a sucker for the extra level variety packs and SSS texture pack was awesome.

Devs have stated the load times are going to be faster this time around, how fast I don't exactly know so either someone that has played the test or one of the Devs will need to come clarify. As for the mods, they will most definitely increase load times for the start of the game and probably zone loading, especially if you have a modd like SSS texture pack since that greatly increases the file sizes to load.

Loading times are shorter, partly because that is the one place it will use multiple cores/processors on your computer. We found that out at the event last week. I'm looking forward to some 6 core action eventually ;)

It's still somewhat slow TBH. I'm pretty sure by the time the game is ready, it will be better optimized though.

Any idea if it's "CPU-slow" or "disk-slow" ? If second, Skyrim will have to share my SSD partition with TL2 ;]

Even if it takes like a minute to load, so what? Do some push-ups while you wait, not like the average gamer can't stand to do a few lol

Average gamer will go and troll on forums instead, so long loading times are definitely NOT good ;].
But that's a good point, some kind of excercise is very good, more oxygen in blood -> faster thinking -> faster KILLING ;]. For me it's 20km cycling from work, while listening to some random podcasts ;]

We were told loading will use more CPU Cores, so it will be considerably faster. Proper computer maintenance goes a long way of course to make a difference, even the basic disk defrag every now and then. Plus, we will be seeing random cool artwork at loading screens and in the worst case, might as well stand up jump around the house in happinnes and get back to TL2 after it loads.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

If they've got multiple default loading screens this time around, I hope we can also add in new loading screens of our own.

Loading is faster, but at the same time there will be a lot more stuff loading. The outdoor areas are pretty big.

Hopefully some good ram usage is in the works then. :D

I've always got 3gb sitting idle, it saddens me.
