Spoiler: show
At the beginning of the video there's a mention of when Patrick's presentation was made, and there a mention of what the various props (plastic axes and fuzzy helmets) were being assembled for: next week's (March 2's) presentation. I suspect big news is coming <====== can you say "BETA"? Good, I knew you could.

Or it meant that they had made the video last week and only revealed it this week. I'm pretty sure Wonder was referring to the video they were in the process of making, but maybe I'm a Debbie Downer.

I feel you're correct too, Doom - Patrick's video was shot a few days in advance of its actual release, perhaps as much as a week; comments at the beginning of video confirm this.

As for the collection of props that are likely to be featured in next week's video, it may be no more than a fun-minded initiative (from JBeck and the gang o' desperado artists) that underlines that there's all sorts of stuff - arms, armor, trinkets, and so on - being added to 'Torchlight 2' as part of the polishing process. But I also suspect that there's another message here: it's time to do battle ;)

And I'm ever the optimist - April 1! :)

Of course Ivy Bridge (the latest in i7 processors; it's using a 22nm architecture that's producing promising benchmarks) is currently scheduled for shipping sometime in April (one source has declared April 8th the magic day), and so roll-out of the new processor will proceed from there - I'm watching the ads daily.

So, really, 'Torchlight 2's' debut at any time in April/May is great by me! But if I'm to be perfectly honest, anytime is perfectly fine by me too as I know 'Torchlight 2' will be worth every second of anticipation.

*chuckles quietly*

Just a wee bit of an understatement, PatrickB.

*...Now comes some terribly biased opinionating...*

When it comes to communication, the folks at Runic have been outperforming themselves recently. Seriously. A+ for both effort and content. Folks may complain frequently about this and that and the other thing, and that's fine - they're entitled to their opinion, I suppose - but I do wish they'd exercise a bit more tact and understand that the forums belong to Runic, and that offering unsolicited negativity (perhaps thinking it's valid criticism or helpful advice) is simply rude, and there's no reason why anyone at Runic should ever have to tolerate that sort of silliness. This, friends and neighbors, is Runic's Home... and we're simply guests, and so it's in our best interest to remember this always.

Runic owes us nothing. Not one thing beyond basic, requisite professionalism. Again, it's in our best interest to remember this too. Always. Has Runic met this criteria? Constantly, and in so many ways I've not bothered to keep track of the extraordinary ways they've reached out to their customers and to their fans.

I know this because I see it daily. JBeck, BrianW, and PatrickB really don't need to cruise these forums on the weekend, but they do (and are here right now). Why? Because they're interested in reading what's being said. They (mostly) appreciate our feedback, and take an interest in our concerns and comments. But again, this is an indication of their exceptional professionalism, not to mention their pride in the product they're producing. They're not really being paid to do this; they do so as they're part of the community.

This written, I would dare anyone to find another game developer that offers a forum that exceeds that of Runic's. Such a thing may exist. But if it does exist, I've not heard of it (not that I've bothered visiting too many developers' forums... but the two dozen or so that I have visited, they're no where near as well-managed as this one is).

Now, on the other side of the scale, as I'm not an employee of Runic, I'm pretty much free to opine anything I wish provided I do so responsibly, thoughtfully, tactfully and tastefully. I like to think I do so. And while I'm happy to declare myself a fan of Runic's, I also like to think my support of Runic is objective rather than subjective. It's my way of saying thanks to all the good people at Runic - $20 is no where near the compensation I think they deserve for all their efforts. Others are likely to see things a bit differently, and that's fine too - again, folks are entitled to their opinions. But that entitlement doesn't confer a right for anyone to post their opinions on these boards, I feel.

Now, I'm not out to incite anyone, and it's certainly not my intention to troll or institute a bit of flaming - that sort of thing doesn't interest me at all, and I'll not respond to it either... unless it comes from my pal Deadalon (whom I have a tender spot for, strangely enough)... but for everyone else, nope - no mercy.

So, I'm hoping the good folks at Runic see the silliness for what it is, and bear with it with their usual panache, and not (for any reason) feel slighted or insulted by anyone who's exercised their privileges to post on this board. Conversely, I hope the folks who do post on these boards know that the privilege of posting is a responsibility too... one that folks really ought not test the boundaries of.

*biased opinionating mode off*

- P.

EDIT: *biased opinionating mode back on for a second or two*

Of course, when it comes to the subject of posting creative and/or fan fiction I feel completely differently! :)

kinda confused on the statement you made. ". But that entitlement doesn't confer a right for anyone to post their opinions on these boards, I feel." What does that exactly mean? Not you but a few people on this board do attack people when they say their opinion and that kinda bothers me some. I know these are runics forums but I figure as long as you don't go over board and be rude with your comments i don't see how it is hurting anybody. I like you don't like everybody's opinions, but most of us don't go out of our way to put that person down for doing so either. OK enough ranting for today. Please Runic just get this game out these boards are driving me crazy

@Cheeseheads: Hmmm... kind of a double-barrelled question, I think.... so... first, to answer the bit about entitlement, think of it this way. You may live in a country that confers on its citizens the right known as 'Freedom of Speech', and this right pretty much allows one to voice one's opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment. But this right often comes with restrictions as it carries with it duties and responsibilities, and hence its subject to conditions, restrictions or penalties. For example, you do not have the right to shout 'Fire' in a crowded movie house, nor do you have the right to pass off opinion that's injurious to the reputation of (or the rights of) others.

Furthermore, Runic's forums are not a public gallery. Consequently, while you're fully entitled to have an opinion, and you're invited to share that opinion, you're not equally entitled to post that opinion on Runic's boards: if Runic feels you've posted something that's not in keeping with decorum (or their Terms of Use), Runic has reserved the right to remove your post at their discretion.

To make this very clear, Stomper (a.k.a. JediFreeman) posted the following at the top of the boards:

Report this postReply with quoteForum Rules
by JediFreeman » Tue Jun 28, 2011 7:57 am

Just some quick rules for the forums here:

    •Be respectful.
    •No spamming or flaming/trolling please.
•Debates and discussions on topics are welcome; insults and slurs are not.
    •No advertising or selling products.
•Don't spam meme-type images in your responses.
•Memorize this slogan: decorum on the forums.
We, Runic Games, can amend these rules at any time without notice.

If you break these rules, we reserve the right to appropriate action, which can include but is not limited to warnings, temporary and permanent bans.
JediFreeman
Runic Webmaster

Fortunately, Runic is a gracious host and hasn't often taken action against users that are in violation of the rules - <with a smile> I blame Brian's kind-hearted and good nature... me, it'd be plasma rifle time!

Now to the second part of your comment: I'd be the first to agree with you, Cheeseheads, that people have pushed the rules, offering attacks on other posters as opinion pieces, and it is often annoying.

How to deal with this? Well, my advice is to take such things in stride, and not respond as it's unlikely you'll ever "win" in that sort of situation. If you feel folks have stepped over the line, feel free to report the post (by clicking the little exclamation mark that appears as an icon on each and every post) - It will be investigated, and Brian or Stomper will get back to you with an explanation of what's what. In my opinion, it's best to let the staff at Runic handle situations rather than attempt to do it yourself.

I hope this rambling answers your questions!

I'll say this again: Sunglasses? No.

Just. No.

No sunglasses. Ever.

They're okay for the beach, snowfield, driving and at altitude (where they're almost mandatory), but not for video. And not for the office. Embermages are exempt, however (the glowing eyes... it throws people off) - but do avoid mirrors, duckies. That's a serious fashion faux pas.

(you know, there are people who make fairly good money offering this sort of advice... and here I am, offering it for free on the web... take advantage of it while it lasts, friends and neighbors!)

Well I'm sure I speak for more than just myself here, but I personally just enjoy seeing an update from one of the Devs (even if it is more or less just a friendly reminder that they are working on it). I don't have a lot of free time to squat the forums, nor do I often have anything to say(hence the minimal post count), but I've been popping on the site/forums from time to time ever since I played TL1 and found out TL2 was in the works. For a while there, (until the new website, and thus the new Friday updates) weeks went by with no new news or updates about how the game was progressing, although the Devs here are super active on the forums and would occasionally 'leak' a tidbit of information, I would -more often than not- miss it. This discouraged me a bit, and I'm sure it had the same effect on others who don't squat the forums (not that I think squatting is bad btw).

Now I'm sure you meant no disrespect in your post, I simply used your post to write a formal thank you to Runic Games for starting the Friday updates, so cheers 8-).

So, Thank you RG. While the updates don't always release new updates, it's still awesome to hear what's going on every week(the humor behind the video this week was a nice touch too), and I'm brimming with excitement for TL2 just like everyone else here.

P.S.: Okay... Max in sunglasses... in my opinion, he ought to have gone with the classic Rayban Wayfarers, and not with whatever he's wearing. Wayfarers wouldn't ride so high above his cheekbones, and because they're a little more rounder than what he's wearing, his face wouldn't look so wide - P.

Well that was nice about new website, but actually there was no much media, only new screenshoots was added as I know and ability to watch characters ir character page. All the story, artwork and features was before.
