I think about those gorgeous motion animations from 'Torchlight' - especially the spiders - and it's easy to believe the guys at Runic were using motion capture rather than relying on some very careful attention to detail. Add to this fluid motion of the characters - from running to fidgeting - and the game appeared great. Difficult to believe they cranked it out in the time they did: 11 or so months.

And now they've taken things to a whole new level, with a huge increase in individual animations (not to mention there's now some interesting animations that'll likely require discovery - can you say "Easter Eggs?")

And, best of all, sounds like the the folks at HQ are just about done.

IMHO the jump of the little dog at 2:40 is the best animation ever. Very realistic, great job guys

I do a translation for french guys to explain all the works you did.

This is pretty amazing and many french gamers hope Torchlight 2 will launch soon, just to see Matt without his beard. ;)

I honestly thought that there were more animators working on the game. Wow.

Nice work.

that man's purpose for the beard and hair...

/kneel
+1000 respect point

Spoiler: show
as for the other guy,
cool weapon man
*thumbs up*

and for the video lady,
I like your voice
*that gesture having to do with removing top hat (i don't have a hat in general but let's pretend) to take a bow? but if that's too awkward then just thumbs up too*
BrianW wrote:Well, you can do full respec if you really want to. Create a mule character, spawn a respec potion from the console and put it in your shared stash. Your target character should be able to use it without a problem.

in an mmo, yeah, sure
but for TL2 I just don't see the point of emotes
with PvP at least you can "laugh at" or "taunt" or "puke in the general direction" of your opponent
but with no PvP and only 4 people ?

I am greatly looking forward to the flying pet though

I'm guessing its very similar to the one at 0:39 - 0:53 in this video

You mean the Hawk?

Also, they never said there won't be PvP.

I really liked this video! Just to let Matt and Colin know, I loved the A.S.S. talk, and besides the obvious jest, I think it is a really cool system! I am looking forward to seeing it in action. As for the modding comment, I also learned a similar way, with some help from the guides provided and some member help. This community is awesome, and I want to thank you, Runic Team for being so connected with us. It makes me happy when you are also dabbling in unknown areas. Enjoy the weekend.

Does this mean we now have permission to call each other an A.S.S since..you know...we're just using your terminology and calling them an "Animation Selection System"?

Only within the context of discussing animations:

Acceptable:
in the context of a discussion about TorchED
Person 1: O hai thar, I'd like to talk about the A.S.S. with you.
Person 2: What aspects would you like to discuss?

Not Acceptable:
Person 1: You're an A.S.S.!
Person 2: What does the Animation Selection System have to do with this conversation?

I hope that clears things up. ;)

I had no idea this feature was going to be in the game. :] That's one thing I love about Runic - they are full of awesome surprises.

A.S.S. is awesome. Probably my favorite thing about TL2 is its A.S.S.

oh, I was thinking it would be like the summon in the FATE video I posted.
The flying pet there was more like a vulture/retpile
