they couldn't give beta access to people who bought it on Steam because they would have no control over how many people get into the beta
they would have to have given it to everyone, but they wanted to start the beta small and grow it over time

I kinda wish there was a way to test the newsletter function, since they aren't sending one out. I keep worrying that I didn't set it up right and I'm not even in the drawing.
