How it works right now is that if you get kicked it simply separates your games from each other. No one disconnects, you simply arent playing with each other any more. We believe this makes it pretty pointless to votekick people just to be an ass. Also, yes there is an ability to block another player. This blocks them from playing any future game with you and is tied to their account so even if they make a new character they are still blocked. Also, you can also make friends only games as well as password games.

Also we dont just let hosts decide votekicks. It becomes very hard for players to tell who is really the host as the games can presist with a new host(s) if the other host decides to leave. Also the way our networking works there really isnt a singular host. Just because you create a game this doesn't mean you "own" every level. The game creator isnt necessarily hosting all of the monster and character data for the game. its is passed around as appropriate.

Possible to get account names with this blocking system?
I'm not interested in ban lists unless they're public, so I'll use a firewall to block specific IP range if we get no account names.
Thought about releasing IP filters at some point, for people who want to build and share custom ban lists.
If we get account names, we wouldn't have to filter each character separately, it would be [Account name][IP range][Comment] like.

And this is stored in plain text? No problem to release account names on public website?
I'm interested in PeerGuardian like solution, where the list is free to share.

Mentioning their account names would probably fall under "calling out other players", which is generally taboo on any gaming forum.

That's kinda meh. You don't know why someone would block another player, some people do it just for fun. You'd be blocking people who may not even have done anything "bad"

Then again, "you wouldn't want to play with them anyway" comes into play again, the people you block based on the public list probably wouldn't want to play with someone like you anyway

If I remember right, you can scroll through the list of accounts you've blocked while in the lobby.

I don't care about taboo, if someone wrecks my game, I'm making it public, with IP, time, date, account name included.
That's the whole point of block list, it's not there to hide player information but to make it available to everyone.
Just want to know if we'll be able to include account names to our existing IP filter list, thanks.

could add more validity to the idea of smaller, ad-hoc guilds who couldn't care less about calling out other players. I don't mind. If Runic doesn't want us calling out troublemakers on their own forums, I can accept that. But no way in hell you're stopping me from doing it on a different site that has no authority over the game. Blacklisting is the reason why these features exist.

On the topic of public lists:

Nah. Too prone to screw ups, and I like choosing who I do and don't play with.
Making a to-do list is on my to-do list.

Actually, calling out players and posting it on the forum may be illegal in the state this forum is hosted in. That, and it's just douchey. It technically counts as heresay.

Try playing with people you know and trust, that tends to work better. I think you're stressing a bit too much about this, personally.

I dislike the idea of making it public as well. Who moderates it? Who makes sure it's legit? Public lynching based on hearsay is a horrible idea.

Ban list will organically be made as you play with people you like. Since all bans are cumulative when you play, eventually you will only see and play with like-minded people. No need for public ban list. it will work itself out naturally.

Your guild does this for your list, my guild does it for our list. Don't need a list, don't download, simple as that.
I'm not asking for approval, I'll make it with our without account names.

Jenniph34r wrote:You sound lame.

Well, you sound like you're 12 so I'll just ignore you and move on.

Official statement is we dont just let hosts decide votekicks.
That's great, but from a host perspective, I get to decide who gets connected and who gets a ping timeout aye?
And don't blame me for this idea, PeerGuardian has been around for a long time.
