I only surmise this because if it is released before PAX we would already be playing it, and wouldn't see the need to go to PAX to play it.

right, becasue there's no reason to go to PAX, talk with the artists and developers and actually play the game with them as they sit next to you, when you could just be sitting at home home playing the game /sarcasm

Ingmartin wrote:Yeah, an August release just left the building.

Clearly they do not intend to be done with even "naming" the armor sets until at least a week after Pax Prime...

that only thing that is clearly is that your post makes no sense at all

how does
we will add an armor set, named after you!
equal
they do not intend to be done with even "naming" the armor sets until at least a week after Pax Prime
?

so, somewhere in your mind, designing (but not naming) ONE armor set means they don't think they'll be done naming the other sets ? ?

how difficult would it be for them to release the game one week before PAX and then release a special developer's mod one week after PAX ?

Runic released mods to TL1 after it was released

why can't this armor set be the same ?

your conclusion is ridiculous

and tickets were sold out MONTHS ago, so anybody hoping to play at PAX, you're out of luck unless you bought your tickets a long time ago

I too am sorely disappointed by this news. Puts a release date at least two months out from now and honestly I don't know if I'm going to live that long :\

I certainly won't have time to enjoy TL2 at that end of the year, so much big stuff is dropping. This isn't one of those "I QUIT THE GAME FOREVER F U DEVS TAKING TOO LONG" posts but I've been waiting patiently for this game since it was stated that the game would ship by end of 2011 unless someone on the team died, I read constantly that you want to get the game out as quickly as possible but then I see there's no intention of releasing for at least another two+ months. A senior member of your team also stated that they would not let the release of their game be affected by D3's release and it appears now that your team has moved into another stage of development to try and make your game objectively better than the product you claimed was not a competitor.

I just want the game. Failing that I would prefer honesty and an indication of your working schedule far more than I appreciate "as soon as possible" and then massive publicity gaining delays.

Will see you all there. Do we get to interview Max again or will someone else be brave enough to get in front of the camera?

It's really sad when posts in the Off-Topic section stay on topic longer than the ones in General :/

Hey I kinda hope it would release before then and have the happy thoughts you do but think about it logically. TL2 has an online play, it may not be the main focal point of TL2 but a small company such as Runic could have terrible time covering Pax if something goes wrong. I assume that Runic plans out their actions before they do it, if so they would have to account for a worst case scenario when planning their release. If the game is released in mid-August then that worst case scenario gets a game convention thrown into the middle of it. So yes logically the game shouldn't be launched a few weeks before Pax, but of course it is a possibility.

IMO if they don't announce the release date on Thursday the 12th for the first week of August(they did say they would give a 3week notice so it would be exactly 3 weeks :)) then it wont be released until after Pax.

I get from this they'll have a release candidate for PAX and it'll get popped up on to Steam the day after (after building up a lot of good vibes at PAX to help things along), with the named armor slapped in on top (which is, after all, just a string edit). Which doesn't bother me, really.

Although now I know that Runic HQ is in VMT I'll be happy to get the game before 2014 :D

Just posted this but since it's a mini-announcement, you may have missed it on our site. Basically, we'll be at PAX Prime, and you can play Torchlight 2 there. OH! And there's the first evar cosplay contest!

I have to say that creating a winning set of armor for the winner of the cosplay is just super awesome! :)

Max always makes for some good interviews. I get the feeling that many other members of Runic don't like all the attention and tend to be camera shy - not that Max is an attention monger, he just doesn't shy away from the cameras.

That would be another great idea for the contest for people who don't get to go to Pax Prime (and if you didn't get tickets months in advance you wouldn't suddenly get to just decide to go to now to get to play dress up :)) - choose a developer from a short list of candidates that we'd like to see answering questions submitted by forum readers. Just an idea.

Sounds like those of us here in the US will get to have some good articles and videos to pour over by the time Labor Day weekend comes around.

Hi, Wonder, what does this all mean in terms of, you know, THE GAME WE ALREADY BOUGHT?

The last good update from Runic was the one about post-beta changes. Since then, all we are getting is low-interest things like "TL1 is available at GOG" or "1 person on this planet will win the soundtrack" or "1 person will have their name immortalized in a cosplay competition".

Are we, or are we NOT, going to get the game before PAX?

Almost 100% positive it's a "Not". I'm just glad someone somewhere gets to play it, as paying customers sure can't.

Do we really need to make such a big deal out of this? As long as it's before the last day of summer which is sometime during September, they haven't gone back on their word of Summer 2012. Is it such a horrible thing for a developer to make sure they have a polished final product before shipping these days? Or are you all so hell bent on having another disaster like Diablo 3?
