This lack of news is getting ridiculous

Postby chemist » Thu Jul 12, 2012 8:02 am

Usually small gaming companies are pretty good about keeping their client base informed on what's going on. I understand delays happen, and I only want them releasing a game once it's finished. However, since we have all already given them our money for this game, I think we at least deserve to get updates on how things are going.

I had completely stopped reading up on the game and checking the forums in early June when it became apparently we weren't getting any new news. I decided to check back last week and again this week, and these weekly news updates are pathetic. Oh, Torchlight 1 is on sale on some random website. Oh, you're going to be at a gaming conference in two months.

None of that is newsworthy. I know the fanboys are going to come with there usually "it's done when it's done" spiel, and I get that. I accept that they're not done and working on it, but I think considering most of us are funding their extended development time we at least deserve some info on what's going on.

At this point, I'm not even really excited any more. Why get excited when we don't even know what we're looking forward to?

Also, I know these posts are getting common, but I think the developers (if they're even reading) need to know that this isn't appreciated.

and runic is doing a very good job
but that doesn't mean they need to give updates every week

^valid statement
if 6 weeks go by without any news then you can complain
but it hasn't been very long

i don't know why this is hard for you, they give updates in a fair time frame, what do you consider unfair, not doing it once a day?

I rarely post... but I read the forums all the time. Not to belittle the OP, but posts like these are getting really irritating. We all know everyone wants the game NOW, but too bad. Runic is working hard on polishing the game, how many times do they have to say that before it sinks in?! I agree, the last few updates have not been very exciting, but at least they are posting. Not to mention, I hate it when people say that Runic isn't keeping people updated because they are... look at how often they reply to forum posts, on their Facebook page, and their twitter account! for a small company, that is commendable.

In short... way to go RUNIC, I can't wait for Torchlight 2!

no, i'm not

you said there has been no news and you were wrong

plain as that

over in Amazon there has been a thread going on About GW2

http://www.amazon.com/Do-not-Pre-order- ... B001TOQ8X4
Do not Pre-order this game!

for the longest time people were whining "its vaporware", "it won't come out this year", "don't pre-order, they just take your money for this unfinished mini game"
even when there were weekend betas the whiners said "why pay for a beta?" "the game has been in development for years and they still haven't announced a release date", "they have no confidence in their developers"

well, the game finally got a release date and the whiners haven't been back on that discussion thread since then

you and many other people are starting to send like those whiners on the GW2 thread

you paid money, you got a beta, you got news that some things in the beta were fixed and improvements were made
but 3 weeks go by without screenshots and a release date announcement and you all start complaining

like I said, if 6 weeks go by with no news at all, and you've already paid your money, then maybe you can ask, "what's going on?"
but that hasn't happened

How about a release date? Too much?
A change log from beta? Still too much?
A list of basic features not shown in beta or significantly changed sense? No?
An update as to why they EVER thought they could release in 2011 when there is still no end in sight?

They have given few if any updates, and everything they say with regards to time frame ends up being false. Not going to bother listing every statement made and broken at this point, it's just bad PR.

The question is:

WHY don't they just give us a little something about what they are doing? IS IT GOING TO KILL?

If they can answer the questions WHY, maybe we will all stop bickering?

We are big boys. We can handle the answer. WHY is there no updates on progress of the game?

hmmmmmmm......

They are posting news, but not directly on Torchlight 2 gameplay. We know that they are working on the game, working on the skill system that is changing since the beta. We got an update saying on what they were working on. I feel like games should be announce one year (maximum) before the release. Otherwise there are poeple like you being pissed off with the wait. And I guess it would be easier to post news about the game for the year coming after the announcement And maybe you should try to get a life? I'm not trolling, you know instead of waiting just do stuff with friends, go out!

And the devs are presents on the forum. Sometime they don't necessarily answer all question to keep some surprise when you're playing the game. Personally I was, for the first 2 years after the announcement of d3, reading everyday the news about the game. Reading to get every news I might get from Bashiok. What I'm trying to say is I knew everything about the game and once the game have been released I wasn't much suprised, or even that excited, about the game. I knew to much about it.

Want updates?

Top-right corner of forum, under advanced search: dev tracker.

Not enough, RGF has aggregated much of the information, straining it through a coffee filter so we can get the delicious news from it.

You're not the boss, and you don't have the right to make demands. I don't remember them making legally binding documents telling you that they'd update you on every iterative process. I don't even remember anyone forcing a gun to their heads to release any news at all.

Everything they've said is optional and out of the courtesy. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO TELL US JACK! Where do you get on your holier-than-thou high-horse to demand what is given freely. It's people like you that is the reason why news is so sparse and "unworthy" and "pathetic". I mean, I wouldn't want to release news to ungrateful slack-asses that wouldn't care about the updates anyway.

Let's say they released a video of act 2 or act 3. Perhaps released some music being played in that area. That still wouldn't be enough and it's just them "teasing the players". Give me a break, they should not release ANY updates at all.

Instead of being eager for news, you're now demanding it. Maybe you should "completely stop reading" again.
Making a to-do list is on my to-do list.

Wasn't this the news from 3 or so weeks ago? herpaderpaderpderp "June 21st, 2012".

Not that I care when the game comes out, I've pre-purchased, and I plan on waiting. However, seeing current news on the state of the game would be cool, or some screen shots. I know not everyone wants to know about a product they've invested in, but you have to realize that a majority of people would like to see some kind of progress to something that they've paid for.

I think that the easiest way to feed the hungry fans between tangible news updates would be to have 1 member of the dev team write a blurb to post on the website on thrusdays, either about what he's working on, or what cool stuff he had to do during development of this game.

Have a different guy do it every week, and it won't impact developement time of the game itself, and will give very diverse and interesting info for the fans to enjoy.

I would love to see something like this. "Weekly Dev Updates" from the different areas Programming/Artsists/Designers/etc.. Would be really neat to see a quick 5-10 sentence quick note on a cool feature, art piece, or area they've been working on.

Incase you forgot, iirc the major reason of why no big updates have been made regarding development
in the past three weeks was due to the fact that some of the staff had emergencies pop up
which halted quite a few things.

^ it would be cool, but i dont see why its necessary. Since when are we entitles to know EVERY step of the dev process? When did this happen? I think we know alot compared to MANY games that are being made right now.

The ironic thing is that the people impatient for info- will be the same ones in an uproar over any information that doesnt "suit" their taste.
Yay, TL2!!!

We're not entitled to anything, but considering the amount of people who have already PAID for this game a long time ago (depite not getting a product), giving them a little something is the least they can do.
