Portal isn't working?

I was doing a quest for the Miner, I don't remember which level and what-not, but the item needed was the Dull Eyeball. I picked up the quest item earlier, went through the portal, and then my game froze during the loading screen. I was like, "Okay, whatever, I'll come back to the game later." Now after coming back, I can no longer go through the exit portal. I've killed everything, and I still have the quest item in my inventory, but anytime I walk onto the portal it gives me no option to use it. Is there anything I can do, or do I have to start a new character?
