Farming defeats the purpose of Elite Hardcore. You must only clear every area ONCE. Farming doesn't count, that's no achievement.
That said, I lost already 3 chars, levels 10, 6, 8, because I always do something stupid :(

no, elite hc is not about clearing every stage just once, that would be something like an Ironman contest.
In Tl1 u had the possibility to buy dungeon Pages and farm level + gear here its the possiblity to clear a zone more than once.
But nevertheless my first char died at lvl 21(engineer) (every zone only cleared once)!

There´s nothing wrong with farming in ehc, lol. You probably won´t reach act 2 or 3 if you don´t farm.

This little fella died from the arc damage on the Act 1 boss.
Spoiler: show
As it seems (from watching the recorded stream video) the point where these arcs spawn make the damage stack. I had an insane amount of damage negation and HP and died instantly.
Engineer No.2 in the works, never dying from that thing again ;)

Lost my 31 level engineer yesterday. I was running around solo and saw phasing wolf. My gear was very good, zone few levels lower, so I decided to kill him and go through portal..
THERE WAS NO EXIT!!! The first phasing challenge which I couldnt instanly leave. There were 3 slimes including big boss slime. And they instantly began to spawn adds which slowed me all the time. I couldnt even hit a boss since there were too many things around him. I knew it was my last stand. Took them good 20 minutes to finish me off. Tiny room was crawling with slimes, they were everywhere! My AOE pushback spell saved me some time, but thats it. RIP Tango.

But its ok, my new engineer is 28 already. Same 1h+shield heavy tank spec. I will never enter phase portals again. At least alone

Nearing the end of Act 2 so far, still on my first run!

I've even braved 3 Phase Portals.

Update:
I just died to one of the midbosses, half a bar from hitting level 34. He just jumped on me and I could not escape. Really, really sad way to die. Potion couldn't heal up his damage fast enough, and my force field was still cooling down.

Currently at a level 10 Cannoneer. Steamrolling through early mobs thanks to the stun.

My record so far is level 30, Embermage.

I was focusing on magma spear and wands and I was a deathmachine. Was in the dungeon beyond the Sphinx and was making scrap out of all the mechanical creations. However, through my bloodlust I missed one of those slicer traps and "snip snip" was all it took to end my rampage of destruction.

Playing Berserker now, and I'm at around 17 in the Frosted Hills. Loving it.

Hi,

Well I died 3 times already. lvl 8, 10 and then 28 all on the embermage class. So now I got 2 embermages one lvl 27 and a back up at lvl 12 then I tried a new class zerker lvl 14. Thank the gods for a shared stash so once I upgrade I always put my good items for my back up so it's much easier to level up quicker.

So now I am just farming act 2 not doing any quests until I reach level 30 so farming items for my lower level chars. With the zerker I was just playing with a friend until he died before reaching General grail.. I solo'ed him though was really easy :D

Also thinking of having a different build for my second embermage. But first want to see what works and what doesn't.

So cool having a few chars to choose from. So I will just be farming items for now until I feel comfortable enuff to finish act 2. then will get my alts to act 2.

Send me a pm if you interested in playing together. Starting to get lonely in the Torchlight universe :P

I have only played TL1 for about 2 hours and I jumped right into Hardcore Elite the moment the game became available to me on Steam, died at 23 Outlander when I got stuck against a wall and mobs surrounded me. I have since worked out a great build and tested, will be starting again shortly.

Up to 34 on my second attempt (same coward/summoner build as the first but more experience with the game/better drops/knowing how to reset maps has made a big difference). Even still, it's getting pretty dicey in the level appropriate portion of Act II. Also, my entire build is based on Wolf Shade, which just got nerfed heavily (or as they call it, bugfixed). It's really gotten harder since then. If I didn't have better gear and scroll skills than the first time I'd never have gotten this far.

I had a lvl12 Outlander that died in town. This mechanical monster showed up and killed me in one shot, then many more teleported to town.
All the players in the game died obviously.

Act II level 28 Outlander. Died after entering a phase portal with 3 badass tars. Survived 30 minutes, but barely damaged 1 out of 3 of the tars. Tough and evil portal.

Off topic: You can re-play areas and outlevel the content? I wish so much I had known that. How?

Start a LAN game, by yourself, and check REROLL world, then create game. You don't need a lan, don't worry :)

Level 12. Ran out of potions at pogg :D. My potion button needs a replacement now as first I thought there is something wrong with the keyboard. Going to make another one though. But damn Elite is like 10 times tougher than normal it is insane. Most of the time I struggle even with normal mops. And the pink ones take even 10 mins to kill...

Level 10 berserker and still alive. Lost a few lowbie toons after the game was just released.

He's still alive, though. I just got into the Bone Gallery Floor 1 dungeon. Let's see how far I can take this toon.

Focusing heavily on defensive skills and stats - feels like it's direly needed considering the random monster-crits the bosses hurl at me sometimes. Howl appears to be a nice cc debuff, and doing some fishing for Big Warsnouts, Prismatic Morey and Frenzy Fishes seems to be a solid combo for when preparing assaults on the big baddies.

But usually deaths come at the strangest places/times - it always seems to catch you off-guard, lol.
