Ravage vs Eviscerate

Postby Belarin » Sun Sep 23, 2012 5:56 pm

Caveat: My zerker is still in the mid twenties, so I have no experience using Ravage. Thus I'm looking for some input from higher level players with actual experience with that skill.

It seems to me that Ravage and Eviscerate are two skills which fulfill the same roll. Namely, they are both high-damage, spam-able, short-range crowd clearing skills. There are some differences, especially with only a few points invested. (Eviscerate starts with more limited range and arc, and initially has a lengthy dot component.) But it seems that at 15/15 both skills would be very similar. Is that your experience?

I notice that Ravage doesn't mention a charge building penalty like Eviscerates. Do you see noticeably faster charge buildup when using that skill? How does the charge build speed from using Ravage on groups of enemies compare to autoattacking with a high execution chance?

I'm currently planning on maxing one of these as a primary attack on my frenzy zerker, but I've been holding off from investing the points until I'm able to test and compare. What are your thoughts?

P.S. Does Ravage count as a direct attack to benefit from Cold Steel Mastery and the full charge crit bonus? I've tested Eviscerate with Cold Steel Mastery and can confirm that it is affected.

Eviscerate does a strong dot.. you could alternate them for max dps. Ravage is powerful because it makes you immune to slows and knockbacks, which would actually be incredibly strong to have higher uptime on armor leech in later levels, where without armor leech stacks you die very fast. I have not maxed ravage, but have a high level eviscerate, and it hits pretty hard. I assume that ravage over the 4 seconds would do more damage. It is now a question if ravage stacks armor leech passive, if not, i wouldnt take it, if it does, i'd probably end up maxing it too.. just not enough skill points for that -.- i did try level 1 ravage but ofc it was so weak i didnt like it.

Good point. Does anyone know whether Ravage works with the armor leech from Shred Armor?

That's disappointing. =(

I guess Eviscerate wins then.

Ravage DOES stack armor leech... good lord does it stack it. I found a Mana Recharge shrine and well let's just say I became a god among Berserkers. I had 5000+ armor with only Rank 9 Shred Armor lol.

Ok wow I just found the unique socketable "Eye of the Wraith Lord" which gives 2.6mana/sec for each monster within 3meter radius in armors. Um yeah, need to farm some more of these things.

-.o im doing something wrong? i hit stuff with the skill and got no buff. will do it again. are you sure you're not swinging normal attacks in there?

apparently im a retard, made a new zerker so i wouldnt have to level up and consoled him. don't listen to me, it shreds armor and stacks it for you all nicely. skill works fine

I use Eviscerate.
The reason is that I like 1 skill to do 1 thing but do it good. Ravage seems for me a mix of a lot of things which can't be as good as those. It's just how I see it and it's a personal preference.

Ok. Another update with further usage on Ravage...

I just got the Tier 1 (Rank 5) bonus on Battle Standard and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be working this way, but the longer you stand inside the effect range the higher and HIGHER your mana/sec goes. It appears to be stacking the 4second DoT effects just like all other DoTs (-armor and +armor from Shred Armor, conveys dmg/sec, etc). I just saw it reach 227mana/sec and it's only at Rank 5. LOL? I was able to perma-spam Ravage until the standard went down.

Ravage + Rank 5 Battle Standard = spin to win. With Shred Armor passive you get armor in the thousands and constant healing from Blood Hunger. You also become immune to knockbacks with Rank 5 Ravage so you can spam in your circle till kingdom come. You're essentially invulnerable to physical damage, just have to watch out for elemental attacks. Ice Armor helps.
