I personally would try my hand at how plausible a squad-tactics-based mod would be. I'd like to hire a gang of single-ability NPCs fighting according to (aggressive / defensive) stance in (phalanx / tortoise / skirmish / pincer) formation. And who else would be their captain... but my bling-bling'ed pet  It would sate the summoner-player in me and watch my pet in battle.
To be honest I was thinking of this since it can hold up to 8 people :D

This is hardly original...

But I'd love to see the maps/stories of Diablo 1 and 2 remade within the Torchlight universe.

Yeah, it's silly, but I'd still love to see it. :)

Board&board.

A mod that allows better loot for less XP, or the converse.

Mini-Doom level gives mini-Doom pet. On flee, heals and comes back the next size up. On boredom (5 min no flee?), shrinks. Max 1 tier up - medium fire Doom. (+1 size per New Game+).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A testbed mod:
A fixed map with monsters, champions and bosses representative of the levels.
No drops. Fixed potions appropriate for the character and difficulty level.
Levels 11, 41, 71, 100 (say), with the ability to set it to any level.
You start at level 1 with 10 XP levels and 5 fame levels and gear typical of level 11 builds, with enough for alternate weapon/shield combos and pet collar, tags and scrolls.
You level up, gear up and head out to kill everything between you and the end as fast as possible.
The mod times you from a fixed start point until every monster is dead.
Repeat for the other three levels, get a report of times (and maybe subtimes, if it's divided into areas with lots of mages, lots of resistances, et cetera).

This allows:
- Player comparison.
- Class comparison.
- Build comparison.
- Skill comparison.
- Item comparison.
- Mod effect comparison. I assume there is a way to import modded items and sets, as well as modded everything else (but other maps) with this.

Then RGF - or somebody with a mod list - keeps track of registered player reports of how every non-map mod changes the difficulty (automatically, if possible). If I sign in, report a base Outlander, pistol bat build, run speed of 75% of the average, then later report a run speed with a modded-in Sniper skill of exactly average, the mod list knows that modded skill makes the game 33% harder (for me). A few more reports and it has an average and standard deviation and others can make an educated guess as to whether they want to use it or join a game with players using it.

LOL! oh wow, that just reminds me of the good old "Mass Attack" & "Evolve" in SC2 / WC3
I'm sure we can come up with something like that for TL2

now a harder & more difficult port, will be Battle Ships & Battle Tank from WC3 :D (porting DOTA falls into the same difficult level)

with all the available characters and mob types we have in TL2, i do believe it's possible to port those mini games over, I think i'm gonna get cracking at it as soon as the TL2 Editor becomes available for download after the game is released :geek:

Encephalon wrote:Just a thread for anyone to share on the types of crazy mods that they'd wanna see in TL2.
While full respec mods and new pet type mods will pretty much be standard,
what im asking is to let your imagination loose and see what kind of crazy mods can be dreamt up.

Now that multiplayer is available in TL2, i think alot of cool ideas can be brainstormed.
hopefully this will inspire some of our creative modders and give them ideas on what the community wants to see.

Think of Dota made in Warcraft 3, World of Starcraft made using Starcraft 2, DayZ made using Arma2,
absolutely crazy and cool ideas that were made from games that wasn't even meant to be played that way.

Let your imagination go wild!

Here's my personal list:

1) Heck since TL2 is now Multiplayer, is it possible to have a TL2 DOTA MOD?

2) A multiplayer TL2 tower defence mod maybe?

3) Implement some sort of FPS view? Very interesting indeed but probably the hardest to make.

drepanaspis wrote:Wave mode where you start at level 1, and level up, unlock equipment and skills along the way.

Tricky puzzles and dangerous traps in the dungeons.

Various modes of PvP.

Act 5.

Diablo 2 uniques made to fit into TL2 (attack rating to fumble chance etc.)

Boss mode, same as wave mode but with bosses, multiple bosses together, bosses with random affixes and stuff.

Emberwords. Collect different unique embers and combine them for special equipment.

Texture overhaul to whatever you like, may it be dark and gothic or rainbowish.

I like the idea of the texture overhaul. but it should be variable so you can change it at any time, and available in the options menu (if possible) sorta like changing the contrast ratio or gamma. but instead you control the colour levels to create your own colour scheme. Surely this could be quite possible? (I'm not clued up on modding so I have no idea)

I wouldn't mind also seeing Gratuitous Torchlight Battles too. Good thing this thread is 'Insane mod ideas' and not 'Feasible mod ideas'.

NO. NO INSAME MODE. OR I WILL QUIT. REALLY!!!!!!

No insane mode. Don`t do that, runic, ever.

Add more game contents instead of new game +++++N.

To OP:

Do you really like the way how Diablo 3 waste your time three(or maybe even four for some guys) times repeatedly?

That means, you really like Diablo 3, right? That also means, you really don`t like D2:LoD way of improving, right?

THEN WHY YOU ARE HERE ???

I can`t help blaming you if it comes true in the near future. You such a plain-headed, lack of imagination, unthoughtful adviser.

You`re truly gonna kill the fun of this game!!!

Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...Hate this OP...

Pretty much this. 100 waves. Elite mob each 5th wave, boss each 10th.

Don`t listen to your community some time (most of the times).

Stick to your older North Blizzard way of thinking and doing things.

Nowadays, most community members are all unthoughtful, shorted-sighted, just-Blizzard-way known(which means they just have played WOW and D3 since they birth and only know nothing but comparing these two games with TL2, yet advice some self-satisfied, thought-to-be creatively new(but actually copycat from Blizzard) suggestions.)

These suggestions are mostly harmful.

Just DON`T LISTEN please, Runic.

You are the last place we real players love.

P.S

Blizzard once famous for its creativeness, for its dare to challenge, for its outstanding thoughts on game designs.

But now, it just focusing on doing easy things all the time. Namely like setting the level cap to 60+100=160, setting all easy-in-design%achieve while hard-in-time-consumption, empty-in-depth things.

Those empty-head players will never know how great games are designed. Because they have never seen real creative one since the last time D2 born, since the first time SC 1 come out, since the first time WOW come out. Just don`t listen to them.

I would like to see someone Make a Mod That makes the game run Like WoW in terms of camera and game controls. In TL1 someone made a Camera Mod that allowed you to move the camera anywhere you wanted, even over the shoulder like an MMO camera.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u--ei04nr-8

If someone can make a MOD version of that for TL2 and a MOD that allowed Players to use the WASD keys for movement, i would be one happy TL2 player.

The title of this thread is Insane Mods which refers to the modding community and what shenanigans they can do with the upcoming TorchEd/GUTS system.

Don't know if this is possible but what about rag doll deaths for monsters? Along with this what about a gore mod, with much more blood, that paints your armor more red the more you fight. Another idea that's probably already been mentioned is a third person camera like an MMO. Just some of my ideas =D

The entire point of this topic completely went over your head, didn't it?

IF you actually READ the topic, you know that these aren't recommendations for Runic, but rather concepts for the upcoming mod editing tools that allows players to add new content to the game such as new dungeons, quests, monsters, character classes, graphics / gameplay refinements, etc.

I'd suggest you take a trip over to RGF or even the Nexus Mods and see for yourself what IS capable of all of the people you just ignorantly labeled as "empty headed" claiming as these sorts of people as "lacking creativity"

Baldur's Gate/Dragon Age-style multi-character party single-player mode. Build a party of three or four characters, have the difficulty scale as though you're playing multiplayer (maybe not quite as rough). There should be some ability to help define the AI of characters you're not directly controlling at a given time.

A full Diablo II remake, what? I can dream. And how about some sort of tower defence?

I'll throw in some reskin model ideas:
Warhammer 40k Space Marine skin for Engineer and Cannons (MiniGuns)
TF2 heavy that can summon a medic bot as a medic bot

1. Weapons for fun i.e. a 'claw' that has the model of a needle +1000% critical +5% attack speed but 1-1 damage.

2. Common RPG stats. i.e. dexterity increases movement very slightly and attack speed very slightly, focus increases spell damage slightly.

3. A story or mini-game (PVP?) with reversed roles in that players control monsters with monster skills and have to raid/attack human areas/caravans/cities.

4. Pimped out armor. Because really, this is 2012.

5. Holiday themed mini-stories.

6. An adventure where the player is a cloud flying above everything that can spawn monsters as minions who fight with normal monsters.

7. A POKEMON STYLED MONSTER CAPTURING AND FIGHTING GAME. WE NEED THIS.
