They have said they will probably make TL for xbox, the MMO has never been canceled, and they even hinted at TL 2. So why would they port the game to a 'console' with some of the worst (E-V-E-R) controls for gaming? I really doubt you have tried to play a dungeon crawler on the iphone/ipad. Because it sucks.

(yes i know this is a troll post, but i have heard so many iphone requests, i'm getting tired of it)

I actually have a fun little dungeon crawler on my ipod touch. It's called "Dark Quest" (although the japanese name could be different from the american version), and it's a good time killer. I wouldn't say that a dungeon crawler on the iPad would be impossible, but you'd have to lay the thing down to play it.

I imagine having a torch in your ipad would make for a very unpleasant experience.

Actually no, I have many dungeon crawlers/rpgs on my iPod touch and the controls are good. I really doubt you have tried to play a dungeon crawler on the iphone/ipad.

I have wasted too much money on dungeon crawlers on the iphone. After $15 worth of $1 games, i think i know the better ones. Zenonia and one called Crusade of Destiny (or something like that) are the two best. But even then, touch controls are touchy (no pun intended) and sometimes hard to use. It's hard enough to play a good dungeon crawler with a controller (albeit there are some good ones), why would they make one for the iphone/pad (which have even harder to use controls) that would sell for less than on xbox live or retail for pc?

“We’re still in the process of porting our game to Mac so we do hope that the iPad will run Torchlight in the future.”

Wow, that one flew right under my radar. Good catch. I think it's still a "we'd like to see if it could happen but there's no commitment" statement.

I've been planning to fiddle around with the Ogre3D iPhone SDK to see if an iPad port is feasible - had no time to really look into it too much yet, but if it is low-impact, I'd be interested in doing it -

Right now iphone/pod/pad > Android. So if they do it, it's much more likely to go to the ipad first, since currently the Android is to the iphone what the mac is to a pc gamewise.

Are there any tablets running the Droid system yet? I'm really out of the loop on that one.

Travis...do you know how happy you would make me if you were to port this?

Everytime I play something on the pad...I keep thinking how much I would rather be playing Torchlight on here.

I've got one too - it'd be pretty slick, I think -
helping push the Mac version across the finish line saw me wrestling with XCode and Mac development a lot more. We'll see if there's a plausible chance of doing it or not - not really sure yet!
Also, not really sure exactly how annoying it would be to have your finger onscreen frantically tapping at monsters all the time yet - could be a bit goofy.

Here is a thought. What if the char did an auto fire/attack when you click on a monster? Less frantic tapping on the screen, but I don't know if you would lose something in the process.

Just a thought.

That's true. The computer already lets you just click and hold on a monster to attack.

If it was me I'd have a could of "buttons" on the side: for right click (launching spells/skills, using hotkeys) and one for standing still and attacking. Otherwise the standard move/attack left click would work well for touching.

To be honest every game on the ipad that involve holding the ipad is tiresome.

With that said, here's my suggestion for controls that are relax and can be played in relaxing positions.

Option 1:
-Press/Hold anywhere on the playable screen to bring up a Virtual Thumbstick which then you can move with. This was done in SquareEnix's Chaos Ring and IMO its better than the usual fixed thumbstick.
-Tapping is tap to move/facing
-2-4 attack functions on either bottom left or bottom right of screen

Option 2:
-Tap/hold to move/attack
-Multi-touch tap/hold(two or more fingers) for Right Click function
-Pinch to Zoom-in/out

I wouldn't agree with the thumbpad, but only because Chaos Rings (absolutely excellent game!) was a different kind of game. Joystick/control pad/thumbstick games are ok for something like a 2D zelda, because there are relatively few monsters and they moved rather slowly. When you have as many possible directions to face and lots of monsters as you do in Torchlight I can only see it getting annoying because you'd miss enemies by a fraction and then they'd get a free hit on you before you could correct it.

To be fair though, it wouldn't be that hard to implement multiple possible control schemes for the iPad. The multi-touch screen makes for a lot of cool possibilities.
