How to change difficulty setting per Character?

In the new v1.12 patch, you are now able to change difficulty settings with your character "on the fly". I'd like to get my Vanquisher in Very Hard mode from Hard mode. How do I do this exactly?

Hello,

you open up the console with Shift + ö / for some players maybe Shift+CTRL+ö (dunno what button it might be if you ain't possessing a "äöü" on your keyboard.. try it out).

There you enter:

"setdifficulty 3" <= accept with "enter" (don't type in the "-Marks)

This sets it to the "very hard"-modus.

The Indexnumbers are: 0 = easy 1 = normal 2 = hard 3 = very hard

Please remember one thing: If you do this in HARDCORE Modus, you WILL be tagged/flagged as cheater! This is only possible without flagging in "normal" non-hardcore modus!

I baught the Torchlight game today (10/nov-09) with the 1.12 patch. I have a swedish keyboard so i tried this shift + ö and shift+CTRL+ö and tons of other combinations (å,ä etc). Never got into any "console mode" though. Instead my game speed was affected, the whole game went into slow motion, at say 30% speed and whatever i tried i couldnt speed it up to normal again. Had to alt+CTRL+delete to crash the game for a restart to fix it. Dam, i really wanted to play on higher difficulty lvl then Normal. Any other suggestions?

NVM, i missed the whole deal with opening up the ini text file first. Now Shift+Ö works )

Or simply dont open the console at all and finish the story, retire+ get heirloom, restart on very hard. Up to you.

Yeah, this doesn't work for me. I modified the settings to enable the console but shift + tilde doesn't do anything.

FYI, I'm running TL through Steam.

EDIT: Nevermind, I was changing Log Console, not Console. Didn't realize there were two. Working fine.
