This is the best topic ever

There are things in life that were made to be broken. Stained glass windows, 2x4s, laws, fine china, barrels happen to be one of those items for which no excuse is needed to smash them to bits.

Now, it IS a shame that in the Lost Fortress you have to spill all that aged ale.

(But then, I think I found a Stark Fist in a barrel one time, so I will keep smashing.)

This question is still too difficult for me the point, I still listen to the master said.

I always, always break and open every last thing in every last corridor and room. As for the booby-trapped ones, that doesn't bother me at all. They do so little damage, that the traps don't deter me in the slightest. Do other people really worry about the damage taken from those traps?

It depends on the difficulty and my characters health, really. On very hard, the explosive barrels can sometimes take up to three quarters of your health in one shot. I hate wasting potions. Tprimarily use ranged weapons tho, so it's really not that much of a problem, most of the time.

Currently playing Diablo III beta, there's so much stuff to break! I had fun spending twenty minutes or so kicking over gravestones *giggles*. Sometimes, fun loot and mobs pop out. I heartily approve of this gratuitous promotion of vandalism.

Every ... single ... one ... of them!

I've never played on very hard, only hard, but with the right skills you can even destroy the explosive barrels without getting near them.

I don't like to waste potions, either, but I almost always have both myself and my pet with a Heal All spell on the highest level I can afford and use. I am also a fanatic about using as many high-level skulls in my weapons as possible. As you mentioned, the ranged weapons help, too, since I'm pretty fond of ranged classes.

if on easy, not important. As you move up the difficult ramp you want to break as much as possible. Uniques can drop from breakables. So get breaking.

I break everything because

a) I like it

b) If i don't and am standing next to a barrel i missed when mobbed by enemies i might blow it (and myself) up when desperately flailing about trying to destroy them.

Epicurus would approve of the combination of pleasure and prudence

This. Just in case it drops something worthwhile.

I break barrels. It's actually one of the reasons I hate playing multiplayer. Everybody else was always hurrying to the boss, while I was busy kicking some barrels.
