Specific game info

Postby Notmyhandle » Sun Jun 14, 2009 3:55 am

Hey Devs, I wanted to get a head start on some of the basics:
  1. From the videos, it looks like if you hover the mouse over an enemy, it becomes highlighted in red, is this correct? Does it apply to barrels, crates, etc. as well? Or do you use a different color?
  2. Can you level up fishing? How do you fish? Can you fish up enemies?
  3. Like Mythos, can you hold Shift to force your character to hold their position while you perform attacks?
  4. What base statistics are going to be used? Is it the base four: again Strength, Dexterity/Agility, Intelligence/Wisdom, and Endurance/Stamina?
  5. What resistances can you acquire? Fire, Electricity, Ice, Poison? Will there be bleed or ignite-like effects, also with resistances?
  6. Is there an achievement system?
  7. Do enemies have a monster type that can be affected by equipment stats? Can enemies have multiple monster types?
  8. Do enemies display what their special properties are? Like Mythos had "Phasing", "Scorching", and "Zapping" for champions.

I'll probably have more questions later. Thanks.

did you ever fish in FATE ?
you explore the dungeon and sometimes you'll find ponds of water (and even lava) that have lights floating and circling around parts of the pond (I think they're supposed to be bugs);
so you mouse click on the circling lights which automatically equips your fishing pole, then your fishing pole casts into the water; then you waited; you could get a bite immediately or you might have to wait as long as 30 seconds, I've never had to wait longer than that; when you get a bite a sound plays, your fishing pole moves a little and an exclamation mark appears over your head
there's a button that says "set hook", you click on the button and you pull in a fish, or maybe you don't because it got away
you don't catch monsters, you catch magic fish that transform your pet into a more powerful pet or you pull in items that have been hiddn in the water; some items are junk, some are awesome uniques

I'm sure TorchLight will work similar to FATE

An achievement system would be cool to compare your stats to those of your friends. It seems like most games are leaning towards this trend lately.

I also had a few questions I was thinking of posting. I thought they were too minor and insignificant for the Runic Fansite's user-submitted interview questions, but I guess I'll post them here.

- You know those purple monsters with beaks and bat ears? What are they called?

- Does the Alchemist need to keep his left hand empty all the time? Does his focus glove preclude the use of other gloves?

- I know character appearance customization is not a priority in the single player, but will we at least be able to toggle the Destroyer's mustache? Or perhaps choose from a selection of different mustaches?

- We've been told the cat pet is actually a "badass lynx." But is the dog a badass wolf, or just a dog?

- What spectrum of colors will you use to denote item quality?

Some of this is still in flux, or TBD, but I can answer a couple of them definitively right now - the rest will probably have to wait a bit for final answers.

Yes, highlight colors are different based upon target alignment

At present there is no fishing 'leveling' - it's a (Very)mildly skill-based activity

Yes, SHIFT holds position

Base statistics are still non-finalized (as far as what they're called and their absolutely final effects )

You can get resists for Fire, Electricity, Poison, and Frost - yes, there are 'ignite' style effects, usually delivered with criticals

Purple monsters are Varkolyn

It's a wolfish-dog. Or something.

the rest are still in progress or TBD -

Thanks for the info Travis. (It's helping fill in some holes in the wiki.)

Yup, always appreciated.

I would have more questions tonight, but I'm a little busy. However, here's two quickies:
1. Can grave robbers summon an unlimited amount of skeletons? Or have you capped it to avoid possible glitches/performance issues?
2. Are you guys willing to release data sheets for the game? Or will the PrEditor speak for itself? I'm talking about creature names/stats, damage formulas, equipment names/stats, etc.

Just to add a quick very minor question. I'm sure this has already been answered I just cannot find the answer using the search for "pet choice".

Regards the pets, is there going to be a choice of pets or it related to the class you play? I'm sure there is a choice, it's just really bugging me that I cannot remember.

Cheers in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer this. :D

I am pretty sure they said in several places that you can choose your starting pet.

I believe they are unlimited, but have a maximum number active at any time, so they will stop summoning

Yep. I'm pretty sure we will release the data sheets.

Nice. I'm looking forward in doing a nice analysis of those! :D
