Camera Shake - Option to turn it off?

Postby Tiptoe » Sun Oct 11, 2009 4:16 am

Hi Guys, I've just been bringing myself up to date by watching some of the video's.

Everything looks great, but there's something that worries me, and that's the camera shake when an enemy is hit. I have a condition called 'Nystagmus' and there is no way I can play Torchlight with that shaking camera (I was even closing my eyes and turning my head away while watching the video's).

Does anybody know if the 'camera shake effect' can be turned off? I'd also like to tone down some of the special effects, because too many flashing lights can trigger some nasty health problems for me as well .

There must be options to turn effects like these off and tone down graphical effects and even if they do not satisfy you I am sure you or someone else can create a mod to disable them

Well I just added it for you TipToe. However it's not added to the ingame settings UI. You'll have to crack open the game settings and disable camera shake. Hope that is ok and I hope you enjoy the game.

Bebop, and Runic Games overall, you folks are awesome. I don't personally need this feature, but the fact that you are so responsive to your customers is fantastic.

And this is exactly why i follow this development group. This type of effort on the dev side builds a very strong loyalty base with us fans!

That is the most incredible thing I have ever seen in game development interaction within a community! A++ for effort and execution and a big kudos to you for the customization! I personally want everything cranked up 200%, but that is just outstanding that you went the extra mile to code that in. Awesome!

Wow...just like that? 'Hey, I can't play with camera shake, any way to turn it off?' and then less than half a day later, 'Oh hai I added the option to disable it for you. Enjoy!'

That's just...wow. You Runic guys (and gals) are something else.

That's... wow. If I can somehow get a hold of the digital download of Torchlight here in Australia, I am going to get this game, just to support you folks at Runic. I can't do anything less than that. You guys and gals are just awesome; I don't think I've ever seen a group of game developers so responsive and helpful to their fans, and -- being a huge ARPG fan -- I really, really want to purchase this game! The only thing is that, I wonder how I might go about actually doing it? I know the price is only $20, but that's in $USD. I don't live in the US, I live in Australia, and I don't want to have to wait for a retail-boxed version... :-(

Well.. you just buy it here online, then it will be $20 converted into 20 $AUS.

I don't see what the issue is =/

I'm an Aussie too. I'm sure you will be able to buy it through Paypal or with a regular credit card. The conversion happens automatically. With our strong dollar it wont be much more than $23ish Aussie dollars.

Heya Coranth I'm an Aussie too . I don't think we'll have any trouble buying the game, from my understanding 'everybody' will be able to download the game for free, but you'll only be able to play the first few levels (sort of like a demo). If you want to play the full game, then you have to buy a key which will unlock the full version of the game.

The good news is, the Aussie dollar is going gangbusters at the moment, so $20 US dollars will be very close to $20 AUS dollars for us .

I guess I'm anxious that it won't be available down here from Day 1.

"The team has an interesting launch strategy for Torchlight; to gradually introduce to universe to a Western audience more familiar with the Diablo style of gameplay in a single-player context, Runic will launch a U.S. and Europe-only single-player version this year, ahead of the full MMO."

I really hope someone can put me at ease ;).

This article is just talking about them releasing the single player game before the MMO. This is the interesting launch strategy described in your quote. The U.S. And Europe-only thing is kind of a red herring and only describing the languages that will be supported at launch... not availability. At least this is how I read it.
