Skilltree reset possible?

Postby Ryuuk » Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:05 pm

At first, sorry for my bad english :?

Is it possible in Torchlight to reset the skill tree when i think after some weeks, its maybe better to take an other skill for more damage? In D2, every time after a game patch they had done some stupid things on the skill tree's and for max damage, u had to restart your character on lvl 1...

I hope u understand what i mean.

+1

I think this would be really useful! (how couldn't it be on the game after all I've read....?)

Afterall I think the thing that game is going to REALLY miss is an online mode :/

Who knows, maybe the game will have such a success that they'll add it as a payable DLC before they make their MMO out... (You may say I'm a dreamer, but I am not the only one...Imagine all the playeeeeeeeeeeeeeers, liviiiiiiiing for torchlightttttt (hugh a bit too much isnt it? :D)

There will be no ability to re-allocate your skill points or "respec" them once you spend them. Perhaps a mod will come out in the future which will allow this...

And when he says modding, there's a respec potion available that you just need to enable as a drop or vendor item (depending on how accessible you want it to be)

Is there no options ingame to respec? Sound very stupid to me. I allways want the perfect build. But i hate to re-level 10 times for it.

Well, that sounds about as easy as it gets.

There was much heated debate about Respec. We decided to make it ridiculously easy to mod in, but not the 'base' functionality.
We were aiming for a much faster-progressing game than an MMO that that replay with a new class or a new build fun, rather than dipping your toes into every skill along the way, and not necessarily giving them a fair shake. But Respec is a big issue for people, so even though it didn't 'win' for base functionality, we still ADDED the functionality, and made it fairly trivial to enable for those of you who this is a deal-breaker for.

No respec gives you a chance to play the game again, with a different set of skills. I like that for the replay factor.

Sounds like a good compromise there. Although the perfectionist in me balks at the idea of blindly choosing skills in the beginning when I know almost nothing on how they would pan out, the adventurer in me actually likes the idea. Guess I'll have my own 'heated debate' shortly on which way I will go...

But very good to know that both options are possible.

If you reach a high level and found out that you're spec isen't is optimal, it can be a pain in the ass to re-level. I'm playing 100% legit so i guess i will have to live with that anyway. This game will be awesome, been waiting for something like this for a long time.

Thank you all at runic.

As long as we don't have limited save slots, i'm going to play vanilla TL a lot before i start moding it. I think the fun of trying new abilities is always fun. kind of like trying a new D&D build without any previous experience. Only 9 more days.

Will someone like me, who knows nothing about modding or indeed computers in general and doesn't understand most of the PrEditor Scripting tutorial videos, be able to enable respeccing?

I noticed the posters above mentioning respec potions; are those posters correct? How easy will it be to enable these respec potions?

Basically, respec potions have a Rarity.
It's currently zero - you just set it to something other than zero.
You can then just dump it into a merchan'ts inventory, and voila - purchasable respec potion
If people have trouble getting it working, we'll make a mod for you and post it :)

Thanks for making the option readily available. It sounds like it is an important issue for a lot of people.

I don't expect leveling in this game to be painful process, especially with heirlooms and shared stash, so I would rather have different characters trying out different specs. I like the idea of being able to play more then 3 times through. It seems like with respecs I would just have to level 1 of each class (3 total) and then I could try out every possible build. That would kill re playability for me personally.

This is good news. I had planned on playing all three classes through 3 times, specialising in one tree each time if there was no skill reset. I still may just for the hell of it if I have enough time.
