No, i guess it will be released later this week or next week, depends how serious the bug is that bepop found.

I am not a game developer and I am not sure how bugs work...but...

How big could the bug be? I mean they were close to releasing it yesterday and it slipping by un-noticed up until almost right about releasing the editor (not exactly when they were planning on releasing it) but it was gold. So it was close to release. How could a little bug like that be a big show-stopper? Like I said, I really don't know anything about programming but am curious...lol

Thanks again Runic for your hard work, as frustrating as it is....keep it up!

Let say its a bug that makes creatures don´t spawn correctly on the map you have made or that the editor gets runtime errors/crashes or something like that, it would only make people more angry
and then whine that Runic did release the editor to early ect.

Catching show stopper bugs is really up to a good QA department.

I do programming and we have 3 different test departments. One to test explicit functionality (IE to catch bugs like the kind that prevented the editors release), another that does a huge stress test suite that will catch a lot of the odd or use specific bugs, and another for regression to test if any previous working functionality has been broken. We also do a test suite after each build to make sure basic functionality isn't broken so we can tell other developers/testers whether it's okay to use the build or not.

If it was such a show stopper bug that prevented release, why was it not caught sooner instead of teasing us with an implied countdown? :?

Maybe the team was a bit too optimistic. :D

Why do we feel so self entitled to have this explained to us?

Coming from a debugger who fixes code that others have developed it's quite likely that there was never a test case created for that functionality. Or perhaps they don't have an automated test harness to catch that specific issue and now that it's come up, maybe they will in the future. Who knows? All I know is that in most cases you have a bug that didn't get caught because it's either too difficult to implement the test case, or it just simply wasn't coded by the test group until the issue came up. I fix it, test implements a new test case to catch in the future, move on.

Whatever the explanation is, we're not owed anything for the delay. Not even an explanation. Most of us will be happy when the editor is released. Will you still be carrying this burden?

I am not sure if you are quoting me or not, but really, you misquoted me if indeed you were. Now don't get wrong...I really don't care when the editor is released. I was simply curious as to how it works. I was told that a gold packaging was the final package where they were basically uploading it to a place for people to download (this was what I was told). So I was just curious as to how a bug big enough to stop that process and, if anyone knew, how long could it be before it was fixed.

These were just easy, simple questions. I really don't expect an answer/explanation (but I got a few answers from above that made sense...thanks) and I am content. Is this a burden? Nope. Have I lost sleep? Nah. Will I lose sleep in the future? Not at all. So I am not sure where you got the idea that I was burdened. Curiosity and being burdened are two very different things!

At the end of the day - they encountered a bug. Nuff said.

All we can do is hope that it's minor and give them our best patience. At least they were able to tell us what had happened, and what they were going to do about it. Can't say that for a few of the bigger companies out there.

Keep up the good work, Bebop and the crew! :D

Maxdecmer,

No not directed to you at all. It was to xilosen but I still dumbly misquoted, primarily tired from a long long day of globalization troubleshooting. After reading a few times I understand I took Xilosen a bit more seriously than he meant and mistyped the quote to boot.

Apologies to you both.

No worries! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't coming across as complaining the editor wasn't here.

They're probably having a few "oh crap, we forgot about this crazy workaround we were using in the editor" moments.

Wait, can we modify the user interface with this? or is that going to only be possible with a text editor?

100% agree.
this is what so many people just cant wrap their heads around. Runic owes us nothing... People are thinking they are entitled to everything.

and the problems with Modern Warfare 2, that just makes me laugh.
they had to of known of the issues weeks ago (have to get the disks made and packaged weeks ago for todays release)

Why does it have to do with entitlement? Thinking it would be polite to for Runic to keep us updated today after was was clearly a bit of a faux-pa yesterday isn't thinking I'm entitled to it. It just means I think it would be a good thing for Runic to do. Maybe some people feel entitled, but I dunno..

but they have explained themselves enough.

they told us they found a bug, they were working on fixing it.
why do they need to update everyone hour by hour?
its been what... a few hours since they mentioned the editor? OMG why havn't they said anything!!!!!!11!
wait, go look around, they did update us. Just not in the now 16 page thread.

There is no reason that forum members need to be kept informed hour by hour of the inner working of Runic Games. unless you work there..
they said they were fixing the bug, and they would let us know when its fixed. thats all they need to say. Some people feel entitled to the hourly updates.

we are unfortunately in the Facebook/twitter age.
every little bathroom break has to be time stamped for the world to know... and be informed with up to the minute details

Try opening for example:
<TorchED folder>\media\layouts\town\Menu_screen.layout

Little tip (I did it wrong):
Think of the three tutorial videos.
For example (moveable) gates are not room pieces which can but animated, but building blocks (Layout Link Timeline) with a model/animation. And levers are for example unit triggers.
I lost a few minutes searching
