A few hours a day every day can add up over time. I've put over 500 hours into my favorite Roguelike game alone (ToME 4, if you care). I don't know how many hours I've played Torchlight, but I know I have retired at least a dozen characters. I've put hundreds of hours into Titan Quest and Diablo II, as well. And I can't count how many hours I've burned playing flash tower defense games.

How to immediately stop playing something you're addicted to: multiply your played time by your hourly salary.

...and might as well add the amount of dollars spent on the gaming PC/console + games that go with it. :)

For example, I've got maybe 300 hours in TF2, 600 in CSS, 300 in Dota 2, 400 or so in Monday Night Combat, 200 in Dungeon Defenders, 200 in Black Ops, 200 or so in MW2, about 300 in Dragon Age: Origins, I'd say about 300 in Minecraft, 4-5 other games in the 50's, the rest is about 10 hours average.

Yea, I play a lot, but that's over a period of say 4 years.

I'm confused. What you're going on about and why did you quote me? Is it Dungeon Defenders? :?:

DotA 2. I hate the bold in quotes, it doesn't emphasize text enough.

With their new-fangled item drop system, I keep seeing the people performing poorly getting all of the actual items, while I keep getting lousy Treasure Boxes. :(

So far, I've got 340 hours in Skyrim and 426 hours in Fallout: New Vegas. Although, I've probably put more time into Fallout 3 and Oblivion, but I don't have exact numbers for those.

41 days on dark souls. (might find this funny, but i've never killed the last boss as host and don't have the completed game achievement.)
3 months on world of warcraft. (only have done like 5 raids. was in full epic pvp gear :))
8 months on eve online. (pissed A LOT of people off. generally didn't care when i quit.)
idk my diablo 1/2 play time. it's probably a lot.

the normal amount i'll spend is like 2 minutes-80 hours max. however long i feel like playing it usually, i tend to drift back to my main game quickly tho.

My top two are honestly probably every version of PSO combined and WoW. I shudder to think of all the time spent on WoW.

Other than that, my next most played game is probably Halo 2 on original xbox live. I put SO MANY hours into that game it was absurd. I'm not sure as to the exact number of hours, but I had 76,000 kills to my name when I checked my stats a year or 2 after I stopped playing.

PSO 2 and Halo 4 are honestly both gonna be huge problems lol. Probably going to put hundreds of hours into those games in no time.

By comparison, I have barely 199 hours into the game (that Steam has recorded), and I've had this game SINCE LAUNCH. It's true that I barely play the game anymore, certainly not as often as I did back before the updates and before demoknights. I never really played the game as regularly as most other people I know. But 2,200 hours and counting? Pardon my French, but holy balls HOW THE HELL.

He plays this game nearly every day, you barely ever play the game, the game has been out a long time... What was the question again?

It is hard for me to really say. D3 has about 130 hours on main character and I am prolly gonna kill Inferno Diablo before Friday. Once I do that though I will not play it as much.

I think DAoC was like 50 days played before I quit. Some classics like BGII have been played multiple times so hard to say. Skyrim was like 100 hours...

How can you play the same game for so much time every day and still have time to play so many other games?

It's amazing to me that somebody as young as my friend could, within a two year period, play a game for nearly a third of a year. <_<;

I mean, it's not inconceivable.

Kurrus wrote:I guess the same principle behind me playing over 2112 hours distributed unevenly across more than 8 games applies to the people who've invested similar amounts of time in a single game such as TF2.

When put this way, it makes sense. But like I said, it makes me feel insignificant to see someone invest that much time into one game.

Sure, if you add up all my hours for every game I've ever played EVER then they'd probably be in the thousands somewhere... still nowhere near as much as other people but that's mostly because I'm lazy and have the attention span of a housefly.

Basically, I look at people who can play a game for thousands of hours, then I look at the big crate of PS2 backlog games I haven't gotten around to playing, and it makes me feel a little guilty for not making more time to play them.

Agreed; kinda scary. :P

However, I wouldn't put complete faith in Steam's timekeeping. If you open an mmo through Steam, for instance, it'll log the time the launcher's open, patching things up. Personally hit a little snag, of sorts, with City of Heroes that saw me add ~8hrs to "time played" while I slept.

Other times, the game could be open and running in the background while your friend surfs the net or chats with other people. Ya know, things like that. And over a couple of years, those little bits can add up.

Not saying he hasn't spent nearly 1/3 of a year playing something in a two year span, but... I'm just a bit skeptical that all that time was time he was actually playing- ie; running around killing people... TF2 has a lobby right? If someone's of the right mind, that lobby just turns into a chat window. :?

[DISCLAIMER] I have 70mins logged on TF2, and that was one play session like two years ago. Honestly don't remember much about it... :?
