In case you somehow haven't gotten into beta at this point.

Y'know...this is kinda like...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me549HoI6gk (skip to about a minute in)
Diablo III is Rob Halford,
Torchlight II Is like Bruce Dickinson,
the Gods of Metal, action/rpg wise,
are getting up on stage together and as much as some people love hating on them, they're still the freaking Gods of Metal. You can't deny they live and breath metal. You might not like how they've changed their sound but you can't deny that the riffs are tasty, the drums are earth pounding and they're the best singers in the business and that it's really nice of them to let Geoff Tate feel usefull, despite the fact that he can't hold a candle to them.

I downloaded the installer and it gets stuck at about 60% and just sits there. I read on the official forum that someone had a similar problem and he had to quit an restart the installer many times. Tried that and it still doesn't work :-/ Another friend in US got it working. Yao-ming face and table-flip meme combined together is my reaction. The bane of being in South Asia I guess

@Zid: That thread is for Mac. I found more threads for the Win technical support regarding the same topic. Tried everything and zilch :( Still trying to figure it out. Thanks for the link though

EDIT: Found the solution that worked for me. I am on Win7- 64 bit
1. Start installer. If it stalls then quit it
2. Open task manager and kill "Agent.exe"
3. Go to c:/ProgramData/battle.net/Agent/Agen.868 folder and double click on Agent.exe
(Keep in mind that ProgramData is a hidden folder so you might need to enable it)
4. After you do that a bunch of text will appear in console/cmd line prompt. Wait for it to stop and then start the Installer again. Don't quit the Agent.exe console
5. You can see the actual download progress in the console and it should not stall this time.

I've begun downloading as well, time to see what it is about ;)

I'm torn between Demon Hunter and Wizard... the barbarian... well I like the warrior heavy melee archetype very much but the barbaric twist is a big no no for me, and the witch doctor, well I just hate the heavy tribal mood.

Niiiice - glad they're opening it up before shutting down the beta servers for good 5/1...

We should get some mp on this weekend - shoot me a msg on steam if you want to get some 4-player action going. :)

About a time to see if the game's any good. Thank gods (but not Bruce & Rob) I haven't paid the D3 Collector's Edition in advance... 8-)

It should be a decent, preliminary trial. I think I read it goes up to level ~13, about 1/3 of Act 1, could be wrong though. I think it's pretty fun discovering games by yourself, I have done very very little reading on D3, so the betas should be an exploratory experience. I prefer to first play the game and figure stuff on my own and then go on a research rampage.

Well, I have been hanging around on Diablofans for almost a year, so I have pretty good idea of what to expect from the game. But I haven't actually played it a single minute.

EDIT: Forum wiped my post when it rudely "demanded" that I review new posts, after I clicked submit. Will now retype

EDIT2:

I can't be bothered now.

EDIT3: And here is one I prepared earlier - my backup copy of all posts I make:

Mmm come 15/5/2012, I will actually be playing Diablo 3. My partner surprised me with the Collector's Edition pre-order. Thing is though, we are moving soon, so I'm not sure I'll open it until we move because we may not have broadband. Won't have any idea on DSL capabilities till we get a phone number once we've moved in. My feeling though is that we'll be denied DSL in the area(s) we are looking at, due to transmission loss to high. It's a very common problem that nobody will help you with. You need to basically have your line rated at 1.5Mbits @ 56 or less dB, otherwise they deny your application and there isn't a thing you can do. In laymens terms: Unless your phone line can handle 1.5Mbits with no more than 56dB attenuation, you don't get DSL - with anyone, any nobody will help you.
Truth be told, there is only one company that can actually help your situation anyway, but they won't since they are a publicly listed company; who just happens to own ALL the exchanges (central office) and ALL the copper (phone lines).

I know, I degress sorry, but my point is that Diablo 3 will be such a nice game and it would be such a shame that I won't be able to play it if I don't get DSL when we move. As for the Beta, I don't really have much interest in it. Much rather play the full version. Did consider the open Beta, but no thanks. And if Torchlight 2 isn't out before we move, I might miss out on that too.

People still get DSL?

Seriously, go with cable, if you can. So much better. DSL is so fail.

I think I get some kind of DSL that goes over fiber optic wires. Either than that or Japan just doesn't label things the same way.

Absolutely not the case at all. It all depends on your location. DSL can in fact be much faster than cable with the right fiber optic network and if you are not in rural areas. I would say its a case by case basis and you shouldn't discount something just because your location doesn't suit one option. It doesn't mean that "DSL is so fail." It just means that not everyone can use it to its optimal potential.

Now, as for the D3 beta.. I am excited and a little apprehensive at the same time. I will approach with caution, yet I have a feeling that I will end up getting sucked in. I really really hope that I do. I will be playing a Demon Hunter for my first run through and then probably a wizard.

Just going by a number of experiences involving friends, family members and my own experiences. Every time, cable ended up being the better choice.

The cable rollout stopped in 1997 after only a couple of years. Only around 5% - 10% (or less) of all homes (nation wide) have cable. Some states and cities don't even have it at all. Even then, there's only two cable providers nation wide, save for a very very select few small areas with their own thing going on. The cable network will be shut down once fibre rollout is complete in about 10 years, IF it gets complete, which probably won't since the next government will scrap it, as it costs about $40 Billion, which is WAY too much. We may not have had a recession, we may have a AAA economy and we may be in a huge "boom" right now with everyone in a job and whatever, but we DON'T have a trillion dollar economy, and $40 Billion is too much, considering the fibre itself won't even cover 100% of the nation.

Broadband here = DSL or 3G / 4G (LTE / WiMax) wireless. Fortunately, we have exceptionally good wireless networks and HSPA+ coverage up to 99% of the country 'Up to 21Mbits, soon 84Mbits". (Very) Unfortunately, it's not the cheapest and download limits are poor, except for Wimax, where it's unlimited downloads. I always prefer wired DSL over wireless, having said that, the WiMax network (soon to also be LTE), is actually faster connection rate than my DSL. Even though my DSL is "up to 24mbits"), I get much much much less than that.
