I've also heard and saw myself, that people prefer not to communicate and talk. I think being selective in public games will be a good idea.

Is there a way to clear recent players from the social list?

Right clicking them and selecting the appropriate option. I remember doing it last night that way.

Arent items used in crafting now? Like everything is useful or easily sellable, so why would people give items away or help eachother?

Items used to be easy sell able or could be salvaged, but that went the way of the dodo bird.

You would have to go back to town to sell items or to have the blacksmith to salvage magic or better gear. White normal gear did not sell much at least in the beta and the magic gear did not sell that much better. Better to salvage them.

I have not had the chance to try the Blacksmith at forging equipment(crafting) It costs money and salvage points (What and how many is listed in the recipe). I would say it is more like the gambler than crafting. As far as I know you may know what one or some of the attributes are of the roll but for the most part it is random # based on the quality of the recipe. Will it compete with the drops in the end game it is hard to tell.

I would give away items for free as long as the person is not a jerk. I have been known to give some of the rarest of items for when I played Battlenet back in 2001-2003.

If I buy D3 I would likely do the same to a few people.

Setting stuff aside for friends? Some stuff you might not need but might be too good to salvage, put it up for auction?

Auction is an option but the Auction thing is not for me. I never liked trading I just gave the stuff for free.

I managed to squeeze in the time to get all five classes through the beta (so about lvls 9-11). I thought monk and witchdoctor were the most fun by far, barb and demonhunter trailing behind a bit and wizard definitely coming dead last.

Multiplayer was entirely pointless though if you ask me, all it did was add chaos - people running around crazily smashing things. I hope the harder modes make you have to introduce some kind of group tactics, or there is just no point in playing with others. Killing the skeleton king takes just as long with four people as it does solo since they ramp up mobs HP, so I guess grouping is more of a social thing than actually adding an extra dimension to gameplay.

Generally speaking I think they have done a really good job with the whole thing. Nice story, nice graphics and sound, and a nice feel to the gameplay. I could even play it on max in 1080p in MacOS. If I want to ramp that up to native 2500x1400 I'll probably have to use bootcamp, but that's OK too. Anyway, definitely a game I'll be spending a lot of time with (if TL2 doesn't completely wipe the floor with it :p)

adoomgod wrote:Btw, Witch Doctors are officially the OP class. I started crunching numbers. Played each class, and in beta Witch Doctor killed the beta boss the fastest.

At lvl 6 they can make their poison dart runed for 3 shots that do 60% weapon damage each, so 180% in all. this serves you forever.

They get something stupid called soul harvest... It adds 28 intelligence per enemy around you capping at 5 enemies. Intelligence not only adds to your elemental resists (0.1 per int) but also gives witchdoctors and wizards 1% damage bonus per point of int. That"s 140% more damage and 14% more elemental resistance when used right... For 30 seconds. Later you can rune it for double duration. ONE MINUTE OF 140% MORE DAMAGE!? 2.4x more damage!? ONE MINuTE!v

It's cooldown is 15 seconds...

Moving on, you'll find that witchdoctors have a TON a %damage boosting passives. They are really really OP. At level 9 I downed the skeleton king in under a minute... At 13 fuggadebout it.

I'm going to get D3 and play WitchDoctor, even if they nerfed him he'd still probably be OP because he's like double OP.

Soul harvest stacks 3 times btw.. So you can technically hit way over 200 int during the beta.. Then use the aoe snare ability and everything just dies.

Also it is quite wise to start off as witch doctor, seeing how it can use any weapon and still be able to do the range ability poison dart :p, that skill is mad op. Don't forget the summons either those things are pretty tanky.

uh.. didn't know Soul Harvest stacks..
Soul Harvest and fire bats was clearing everything for me in less than second..
But I had real fun with Wizard and Shock pulse runed with that AoE damage when mob dies.. killing monsters in Jar of souls event was just orgasmic :) . My favorite event so far.
Early levels without runes and with skills forced on you really are not so much fun, but later on it kicks in and feels much much better.

I like Witch Doctor best
but I also like the Wizard
my style is definitely multiplayer, I take my Wizard and run right up in front with the Barbarian (even though I'm supposed to be squishy)
I Frost Nova everything and freeze it solid, then the Barb smashes everything
I use Magic Missile on the distant targets to keep them off the Barb while he takes care of the close ones
I don't have a sig

So I tested the beta with the Wizard and that was it. I then proceeded to Pre-order the whole thing this morning.
I refuse to even think about Diablo 3 until May 15th. Until then, Diablo 3 is out of site, out of mind.

Wasn't entirely impressed with the beta gameplay, but through level 13 on normal isnt exactly a test.
I expect the rest of the game will show off it's best programming, gameplay and challenging bosses.

So 60 dollars lighter...I sincerely hope it's worth it!

No question about it. I know Blizzard have done a lot to ensure gameplay fairness with loot drops, etc. but they can't do much to ensure that assholes and machievelles don't play too.

I somehow missed him on my first character, but on my sorceress I ran into that audio clip and spent the next minute laughing

Also got a chance to play with sixshot before game crashed. I also took an underleveled character to wrong places. Results weren't pretty

I'm really liking the witch doctor. Not only because of the necropups (thanks to his necrohounds,I know have a really AWESOME idea for a costume for my ibizan hounds this year >:]) but because of his dialogue. There's this little bit of dialogue between him and the blacksmith. I won't spoilt it, but it's this really touching interplay between the two of them.

Something that's been making me think a lot is the story, tho. Like...ok, different game, but Saints Row the Third is basically about the third street saitns becoming a corporation. They basically lose sight of the whole reason they became as well liked and as popular as they are by the beginning of the third game. In many ways, THQ and Volition (the publisher and developer of the game) did the same thing. The game is over the top and has fun gameplay elements but it's a lesson in wasted potential because compared to the second, it falls far short of whatever potential it had. The story is almost self satire, only unintentionally.

Now we come back to Diablo III. Maybe i'm reading too much into this, but New Tristram was founded by merchants close to where the ruins of the old town lie in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the legends and the folklore of the cathedral of old Tristram. It ended up attracting settlers who came to take advantage of all the new found popularity.

>.>

Yeah.

Hopefully, D3 avoids the same fate its own developers decided for New Tristram.

"We have all heard the tales associated with Tristram. The very mention of its name brings to mind images of undead monstrosities, demonic possession, monarchy driven to lunacy, and, of course, the greatest legend of all: the Lord of Terror unleashed. Although many now claim that a peculiar mold upon the bread or perhaps a fouling of the water drove the populace mad with visions, I have seen too much in my varied travels to dismiss such stories out of hand.

It is within this context, then, that I have to say my journey to what is now called "New Tristram" was somewhat of a disappointment. New Tristram has been in existence for several years, though the exact date of its founding is unclear. Originally simply a collection of merchants looking to profit on adventurers and travelers drawn by legends of riches within the old cathedral, it slowly set down roots and became an established town. As soon as the cathedral was looted bare, however, the adventurers and travelers stopped coming, and New Tristram found itself in decline. The town is now comprised mostly of depressing shacks; the inn is the only building that looks even the least bit habitable.

Before I took my leave of this dreary place, I was cornered by an eccentric old man who seemed to have an endless supply of anecdotes and folksy wisdom to impart. He went on about there still being much of value deep within the cathedral in the form of tomes of ancient origin and wisdom. I will have to take his word for it, for I must admit that while I did explore the burnt remains of the "old" Tristram, I lacked the intestinal fortitude to do much more than take a few hesitating steps within that infamous cathedral of legend.

I have found the Barb to be OP. I did not like the WD that much since the Zombie Dogs were weaklings and could not tank at all. I did like corpse spider and the poison dart.

I had my immersion into the game only when I stopped to rush through quests and began to study the surroundings. and then I saw a man on the edge of new tristram serves the burning of bodies, so they wouldn't have turned into the undead.
