You know what... I have no idea!
And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall,
with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall,
and not a soul to hear.

Admittedly I don't use this forum title often, but it was the name of my level 99 Assassin in D2.

Long ago, I got an Xbox 360 for my birthday. When prompted to input my gamertag... I totally spaced out. Prior to this, I had never had an online persona of any kind; hadn't played any mmo's or registered on any forums.

After wracking my brain for a bit, I had a flashback to checking my email a few years before, where I saw a teeny-tiny banner ad for apple strudels. Its small size and choice of font caused me to misread it, briefly, as apple shrapnel. I lightly scoffed at myself, thinking "Funny, too bad I can't use that anywhere."

So, my blank stare at the television quickly went from :| to

And thus, AppleShrapnel was born.

It's a South African nick-name for Carling Black Label (a beer).

My username come from a stupidly used and abused italian expression, that means more or less "what have you", or, more litterally, "how-much-else".

My name is a no-brainer to anyone who has read the source material, but probably a mystery to anyone who has not.

It comes from fantasy author David Eddings epics "The Belgariad", "The Mallorean", and the two companion novels "Polgara the Sorceress" and "Belgarath the Sorcerer".

My screen name is Belgarath plus my real life intials.

Belgarath the Sorcerer is actually not the hero of the epics, but rather his grandson, Belgarion. Belgarath is the archetype of the "wise old man" who guides the hero. He is the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" to Belgarion's "Luke Skywalker". He is also analagous to Gandalf the White to Frodo Baggins. However, as a character, he has many character traits and storyline points that make him rather unique as archetypes go.

Farkas is Hungarian for wolf. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farkas

Fhaarkas is just a word play to make it sound more in-line with Diablo universe. The full pseudonym is Fhaarkas ul-Filtiarn. I was reading Diablo novels a few years back (to be exact - during the era of Hellgate London) and I liked their naming convention.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go back to my imaginary world.

P.S - No, Farkas in Skyrim came much, much later.

Ingmartin?

Well, my Grandfather's name was Ingmar (so is my Dad and so am I, our middle names). My Grandfather had a twin brother named Martin who ran away from home at age 17 back in the 1920's, and grampappy didn't find him again until the late 60s. Ingmar the first had a great and fulfilling life, while his twin was a mentally unstable drunk living in the back of a wharehouse with three divorces behind him, legal problems, and very very ill. Martin died shortly thereafter, while Ingmar lived through the eighties.

Sort of a sad story, I know, but family legends stick around, and out of tribute to my late grandsire and the yin-yang of their names and lives, I merged it together.

Hence Ingmartin (I also use this as my moniker for music...my aka.)

Ta da!

Re: Where did your user name come from?

Postby Graeystone » Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:14 pm

'Graeystone' started with the Gargoyles' Cartoon character Matt Bluestone. Bluestone stuck in my mind as the Internet became more and more available to people. Getting Internet access during the AOL/Compuserv/33kps modem era. At first I considered Bluestone as my online nick. However Blue seemed a little bland for a nick. Thinking about the colors I like, I eventually settled on Gray. The next problem was spelling. I couldn't decide on Gray or Grey. Then I decided to used both vowels(. . .that and it looks really cool spelled that way.) At first it was Greaystone but I didn't like the reverse order of the vowels so I flipped them around to what is seen today. . .
. . .
. .
.
And there is NO connection between the nick and pagan/wiccan beliefs! Still get asked that from time to time!
