It certainly looks pretty, but I quickly lost interest upon checking out their main site- three playable characters and they're all the most painfully basic archetypes you could possibly do:

Burly warrior man
Dark sorcerer guy
Lithe rogue lady

With such little imagination shown on the characters, I have my doubts about the rest of the game.

But still looks pretty...

Fair enough, but at least there was some creativity involved in naming them: :P

Burly destroyer man
Dark (ok, not really dark) alchemist guy
Lithe vanquisher lady

So it's all about the naming that makes the characters interesting?

One thing that I didn't like about TL1 was the name of the character classes, because upon reading them I had no clue what exactly they wanted to tell me. Especially vanquisher and destroyer seemed to be exchangeable names. The same applies to outlander, and a little bit to engineer, but berserker and embermage are telling names, and I like that. I rather have a warrior than a "insert random word" guy, which essentially is a warrior but has been named differently to make it seem creative.

I already had seen RAW before and I'm keeping an eye on it. The studio seems to be a rather small studio, so my expectations aren't too high, but you never know (see TL1 ...)
The atmosphere looks great, it has the colorfulness of Trine but still looks like a gloomy world.

Game looks really nice to me, lots of enemies to kill, large aoe skills, fast paced. Only problem with these games is they always end up being something wrong with it, either its quite shallow, few enemy variations, few builds, wonky healing mechanics; something will make it suck.

Ya here you go, not even 8 skills per class, 11.4% as many skills as diablo 2 had and its littered with passives:

Hera help us! There's already a D3 reference in the very first reply to that post.

Developing your character is very weak from info I have. Only 8 skills per character, and from 24 skill from all classes 6 skills are shared. Also its done for xbox, so i'm a little skeptical about it, and think that it is more a action game than a arpg game.

What am I missing here? I count 21 each for wizard and warrior. Admittedly, I took only a cursory glance, but it still looks as though "not even 8 skills" is an inaccurate statement. That is, of course, unless you're discounting those passives you mentioned from the tally.

-EDIT- nevermind. I looked a little closer and it seems the level 10 and 20 required skills may only be upgrades to the starter skills. Apologies if I jumped the gun there.
If disgruntled Diablo 3 players come to Torchlight expecting a Diablo game, they're likely to be equally disappointed. If they come to Torchlight just looking for a good game, they may find themselves a home.

It looks like a Titan Quest clone, if anything. I think it looks interesting. Hopefully the maps aren't all just wide open and uninteresting areas where tons of mobs mobbing you makes up for weak map design. And hopefully the music is temporary, because the music in the trailer is absolutely horrible.

i really don't see much difference at all between RAW and TL as far as characters go...both use well worn archtypes.

Anyways the game look decent, graphics/effects look good and the action and animation also seems good. Is there a run down on the skill/item systems though?

Well no... for me, the graphics were my first impression, and I was thoroughly impressed in that regard. I went to the site for the second impression- and it's really the biggest thing that makes any game (games in general, not just aRPG's) interesting for me; playable characters. And I'm met with gender-locked, age-old archetypes. There's something to said for tradition, I suppose, but... I dunno, it just didn't sit well with me. :P

I can understand that, but in TL's case, the classes weren't cookie-cutter warrior, mage and rogue. Destroyer has basic warrior-type attacks, to be sure, but also has ancestral spirits. Conceptually, just calling him a warrior is short-selling him. Alchemist has basic mage skills, too... but what traditional mage can summon imps and steam-powered robots? Vanquisher is a bit rogue-like in general, but lore sees her as an elite city guard... so rogue would've been a misnomer, I think. :?

Don't get me wrong, I'll still give RAW a fair shake at some point, but the game's gonna have to bring something new to the table if it wants to be more than just another failed aRPG. Pretty graphics are nice, but it needs to have a good story... or barring that, excessively fun gameplay and a ludicrously varied loot table. From what I can tell, it has a beautiful paintjob, but the interior seems kinda bland. A pretty face with a boring personality... ya know. ^_^;

Although ultimately, I think an aRPG's success hinges more on the loot... so if that's good, then RAW could actually work.

It certainly looks fast and frenetic. I do like. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
