Thanks for looking into that Volbard! :D Obviously it's been pretty frustrating for those of us who decided to buy the box version!

I registered just to say thanks, Volbard! I bought the boxed version and have been anxiously awaiting the new patch. It's good to know that the devs are so helpful to the community!

Encore is very slow to support it seems, But one basic patch was able to update all versions of FATE. Why the hard time patching all the version of Torchlight? I've never seen this before with a game... Is there really that much custom code in place with all the distro's?

Just an update to let you know I haven't forgotten about this, we're just waiting for a response.

In general, the different versions don't require too much custom code, but they do require a lot of independent testing. It's easy for things to go wrong in the build and packaging processes, so our testers have to check everything in the game for every patch for every distributor, usually several times each because they find problems that are fixed. Then when we pass the build on to the distributor they each have their own systems for wrapping, testing, and releasing the game.

Anyway, that explanation probably doesn't help. I hope we can get the new version to everyone soon!

Just be glad there isn't a console version. Getting updates through their certification processes would have Runic tearing their hair out night and day.

Thank you so much, honestly that helped a lot... and it makes sense why it takes so long for them to check it agist there versions of the game... and to make matters more confusing the retail version is 1.13 (Ferret Power!) so i guess thats why it may take longer

I would think that the boxed version would be the most straight forward to patch since it doesn't seem like it wouldn't have to have anything added to it by other distributers before selling it. Anyways, thanks for responding to our questions about the patching of the game.

Encore added some kinda shadow install into "program files/common files/datalode/torchlight/encore_reg.exe" its a call home program scripted to run randomly it seems... also installs some sort of EXE that loads at win start... very odd... the game seems to run perfectly when you remove this program so it was easy to get rid of.... though if you don't have a good firewall program you would miss this little install

Huh?? 1) No offence, but what's your point?; 2) When did they "add(ed) some kinda shadow install"? Are you talking about when you installed the game?; 3) Exactly what filename are you talking about/looking at?

Not really sure what you're getting at here with all this 'shadow' talk. :?

Oh, that one. I just assumed it had to do with the Registration that comes up after installing TL.

I return bearing almost no information!

Encore confirmed that they're still releasing the boxed copy patch, but it's unclear when. Hopefully it will be out really soon, I think it briefly fell of their radar.

I think that extra app has to do with their registration program, you should be able to delete it without affecting the game. I suppose there's a tiny chance that app will have something to do with installing the patch, but that would be silly and you could just reinstall from the CD anyway if that turned out to be the case.

Thanks again, Volbard, for keeping us posted! Even if there's no news, per se. :) Still, I 'know' a few of us have voiced our concerns/complaints to Encore, so the "dropped off their radar" thing sounds.....odd.

Volbard, could you please put a push on Wildtangent to reveal info. regarding Torchlight 1.15. I corresponded with them via email and the person that replied to my query wasn't even aware that there was a new version of Torchlight. On 3 separate occasions they have blatantly danced around my request for a version number display on their game download page. So I have no idea what version of Torchlight they have for download. I was told to keep up with Newsletter releases, which wasn't exactly helpful and is poor customer service.
So this is just a heads up that Wildtangent has left a sour taste in my mouth.

Edit [Feb12/2010]: Wildtangent updated game. For those that purchased via Wildtangent, 1.15 is now available even though it doesn't say which version it is. There is a small blurb from a Wildtangent rep. within a freq.asked quest. post that it's available.

Any word if Encore has released this latest "boxed version" patch yet? Any word as to how big the patch is?

I bought the "boxed version" yesterday as my 26,4 Kbps rural dialup connection would preclude buying the retail online version. Downloading the game would have been a horrendously long process for me.

you can see that Volbard's post is only 11 hours old. Its a pretty safe assumption that they haven't released the patch in the past 11 hours.
I'm sure the patch will be too big for you to download by dialup. Your best bet would be to buy a USB flash drive
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/SanDisk+-+2 ... Id=8281352
and use a computer at a public library or school and download the patch onto the flash drive and then take it home and install it
I don't have a sig

Once it's out, if you haven't already, get a download manager or browser which will let you pause and resume downloads then just leave your computer downloading all the time. At best, you'll only have to wait a day and a half. Worst, a week maybe. You're on dialup so you must be used to things taking that long, eh?

Thank you so much for all the help, i appreciate it... and i did mean to freak anyone out it was a simple "please register" program but yeah a quick reinstall wont hurt anything and game saves are easy enough to backup :D
