I think they should go with Achievements giving fame which then can be used to buy those boosts, titles, special cosmetics, etc.

Request:

Mercenaries in stead of pets. I'd at least like them to look like they could be kickin' butt right there in the battle field next to me.

10 things I want in this game:
1: active level increase, meaning that every month the level cap increases by at least 2; until it is in the 1000's or higher with constant additional material to support such a ridiculous request, but you guys made torchlight it is your own fault for making the once impossible possible...
2: Bosses you can resummon like in Castle Age on Facebook
3: Zelda like tools, to add more of an adventure feel, a hookshot like item for zipping across chasms, bombs, torches
4: Zombie Survival/escape areas/instances
5: Lockpicking/stealth abilities/pickpocket NPCs/
6: Grappler class (Like Baki the Grappler anime)
7: Hair Salons (for you and your pet(s)
8: Equipment like Bandannas, fingerless gloves, headbands, auras (like in tekkin 6 only with effects)
9: Ammo systems/ inventory slots for ammo
10: A suggestions and rating system:
rate dungeons and instances you play 1-5 stars, the system will tell everyone it's overall rating, Have a suggestions box that is points based-> you must rate 3 suggestions before you can input your own on the 1-5 scale suggestions must reach at least 2,000 points before the developers will look at them and you can only vote 1 time on each suggestion, if you want you may rate as many as you like and earn "points" toward your next suggestion, if there are no more suggestions than you may just post one.
I am just trying to be fair, if what I say hurts you, you probably need to seriously evaluate what I said, break it down and realize I am not trying to insult you, Just explain things you probably didn't realize.

Mount Features... (Warning there is a lot of Final Fantasy talk here, but still viable)
I have played many games both online and offline and I find that a lot of games don't take pride in the fact that they have mounts... here are some things that I have noted on strong mount features:
1-Mounted combat is a must in today's day and age
2-In Final Fantasy 7 you were greatly rewarded for your patience with the chocobo breeding system.
3-In Final Fantasy Tactics chocobos had their own special attacks as allies but when mounted game their movement capabilities to your characters which helped out quite a bit.
4-In Final Fantasy 9 a minigame was introduced that allowed you to "dig" for treasure, this process was continued in the recently released Final Fantasy XIII, however I enjoyed the final fantasy IX way better because there was more interaction.
5-Some games treat mounts as buffing equipment more than anything else which would be cool but than again i like to think of my mount as a character rather than a disposable piece of equipment... WOW... so maybe they can earn levels if they are creatures.
6-In Final Fantasy VII the crazy motorcycle minigame was awesome, It featured a defense objective, mounted combat at high speeds and it was just fun.
7-In Final Fantasy X there were chocobo knights, the important thing here is that having a chocobo was a prerequisite for becoming a member of this faction or one was given to each member as a result of joining.
8-There are 3 basic types of mounts: Flying, Ground and... Underwater. However most games don't have Underwater or even swimming mounts "Go Laparas"
9-In many games you had to go out and find your mounts rather than buying them, I believe that both methods are important but for every Creature that you can buy you can find a wild version that was raised differently and has different stats, but if you find ancient technology and discover an ancient motorcycle but that has AI maybe it can learn to level up as well, Technology mounts should not ordinarily have the ability to level up... maybe upgrade (which would set you on a pedestal compared to other games)

I seen some kids playing with Neopets and the only thing I found useful was that pets of the same race (if you will) can come in a variety of designs and colors, by adding a feature like this players will stand out even more uniquely because the creatures that they ride and those that follow them would be customizable in pattern and color. I just thought it might be worth looking into, I wouldn't mind having a slime creature that resembled a pumpkin as a pet.

Left handed or right handed- YOU DECIDE!
another feature you don't see in many games is the ability to emulate yourself, for instance the Nintendo Wii uses an ambidextrous approach making players fit in how they actually play, but just being able to say that you are left handed and have a "strong hand" is a minor feature but will come at a cost:
Left handed- 6 points to left/ 10- 4points to right/10 (mixed in)
Ambidextrous- even point spread
Right handed- 4 points to left/10- 6 points to right/10 (Mixed in)

I think Left and Right handedness should be a purely cosmetic choice with no influence on gameplay... but it would be a really cool choice during player creation that I don't think I have seen in any MMOs so far. All they would have to do is mirror the character model/equipment and switch the left and right hand slots in the inventory.

Wanted levels like in GTA: the reason for this is the parties that RAID KILL other players in pvp especially high level players killing low level players, sure this may be dissolved you earn stars by killing people more than 2 levels below you, and you earn X of a star based on the # of attacks it took you to kill the other player, where X would be measured by the ease of the kill you would get more notoriety.)
I am not entirely sure how they would be able to do something like this, because so many people Gank and flee (log off), players that were killed should have the option to remember the ID of said assailant and post a bounty themselves, if someone takes up the bounty their reward will be fame (the amount of the hiring member's level + the mark's level) and any extra reward the hiring member may choose to award. You may only post a bounty on characters that have killed you (this is to balance the game) when the total number of bounties =10+ there will be a special event/reward for the PKK that delivers the finishing blow.

Generations: What "retirement" really means
When heroes of legend arise, they leave babies in their wake. These babies grow and have babies (thank you Stork) anyways... this happens for sometime until the ancestor has "faded into Legend", In an MMO you should be able to recall your ancestor's spirit to help them defeat a foe that maybe came out after they had their fun (or maybe somehow it slays the hero after retirement... something after several generations), but giving characters the chance to fight side by side with their ancestor's spirit might make for an interesting quest, and the reward would be being able to have your old character at the retirement stage available as a party member (in spirit form? I mean he/she has been DEAD for ages...). I just thought it would be cool.
-Thanks, Cybrim

Something awesome could be built off of this idea. I like the idea of having retired characters being pulled out of the past for something. What if there was a special "Hall of Ancestors" area (or something like that) where you had to single-handedly fight each of your character's previous generations? Heck, that would be a cool requirement quest to unlock retirement for a character.

A few more ideas and some info:
1-A tracking system for toughest opponent like in Titan Quest
2-Hidden passages (like final fantasy 5, where the Thief could detect them)
3-Summon Equipment (like in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) that would be handy.
4-Ember Taint (Like Rads from Fallout 3) instead of being deadly have it add new abilities and allow safe passage vs monsters but to Players appear as a target. (cure taint upon death or purifying shrines, deny town visits)
5-Unleash (you have 1 to start with at first rank), it takes 48 hours to regenerate an Unleash, it will restore 10% of HP and MP per rank and regenerate 30 minutes per rank after the first faster, adds +5%xp per rank for 1 minute per rank, you may have a maximum of 3 unleashes at max rank. (all charcters? Achievement related skill?)

Honestly I get my ideas from the super nintendo and sega genesis era games... there were so many great games... they don't make those anymore... I hope Torchlight (MMO) can bring back that epic feel for everyone... this newer generation doesn't realize how little they really have, I am 23 and good games were almost constant when I was young, but now they are so hard to find I end up frustrated that I spend $60 on a 3 hour story and no freedom... that isn't a game that is the most expensive long movie I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with... and don't want to ever interact with again.

The ability to turn selected auras off, I have been playing through and found one of the most annoying things, when you have like 3 elemental effects on 1 weapon you can't really see the weapon because of the amount of light it produces! I would really appreciate the ability to turn some of them off (just the look). Or maybe rather than forcing the look on items maybe they can just have an elemental effect and if you want the aura you can buy it or win it (you may take the aura off and attach it to a different piece of equipment if you want).

-Cybrim, why must my pistols look like flashlights?

Re: MMO Requests Thread- the feel of the game

Postby cybrim » Mon May 24, 2010 10:39 am

I really liked Diablo for it's darkness, that being said was just diablo, I thought as I played through Diablo II that it was awesome because it was what it was supposed to be. Fate was WAY too lighthearted, honestly at times when I think about Torchlight I see darkness and light. I would like to have the ability to play the game as if I didn't recognize it to be an MMO at all, if I can't find a party I should be able to adventure by myself, that means NPCs should have more of a part in the story, quests should seem seamless (as they do in Torchlight). The music... was a little too Diablo, this being said I want to experience an entirety of emotional circumstances through the music, the environments and the story. The music needs to be varied, grassy plains, cemetary, dark tower, town... things like that, I would suggest having your composer release samples and letting people vote on how they feel about it, 1-5 stars and a checkbox on how many places they could see the music being played, all checkboxes should have rough sketches of the environments next to them, I know this idea probably won't be heeded, but it would be nice to know I won't feel the need to listen to my own music at all.

-Cybrim, pondering on what to expect, curious yet hopeful. I find classical music is deep and story telling, metal is boss combat, opera is like betrayal or wicked divine, Rock is build up music, lounge music just sets an urban feel: classy yet modern, techno/electronica is really cool sometimes (you just have to find out where to put it), revelry through a goat's horn is just hauntingly awesome, I just want there to be more variance in the music than there was in the first one.

1. Story - I want to watch a cutscene and afterwards I want to be able to say that was freakin awesome. You know like Tyrael and the Worldstone scene.

2. Fast Travel/Map Travel - Don't want to spend 30 min riding on a mount when I have only 1 hour to play.

3. I want the world to have alot of immersion. If I am in an area where it is supposed to be scarey then I would like it to be dark and grim with a sense of urgency.

4. No dedicated healers.

5. Make the game challenging. If it is too easy then it gets too boring and I'll wind up eventually not playing.

The first diablo was meant to be dark, but for torchlight(mmo) I'd like to see a wide variety. Some areas should be grey and utterly depressing and others should be puking rainbows.

As for the music, I'd have to say that it was fantastic in the single player version. However I felt that there was no "single." In d1 it was Tristram(song) and for d2 Harem. Personally, I'd like to see more cultural or hypnotic tracks.
