The Big Questions!

Postby Webbstre » Wed Aug 04, 2010 5:43 am

Here's my post for some big questions, in the hopes some dev will have time to answer them. Feel free to add your own everyone!

1- How will the multiplayer work with modding? Anything to prevent cheating or to help with mod-syncing?

2- Will there be Diablo 2-style server-based characters?

3- What will the max party size be?

4- Can we expect an alpha or beta test? This WILL need balance testing after all ;)

5- How big will the game be compared to Torchlight 1? The kind of difference between Diablo 1 and Diablo 2?

6- Will anything be import-able from the first game? Any bonus for people who bought both?

7- What platforms will it be released on?

(Will update as I come up with more questions)

In regards to Webbstre's question 1,

Will there be PVP of any kind (even simple duels?), because otherwise it doesn't really matter if anyone else cheats as it's co-op anyway...

Another question, are classes all going to be new or will we get to use some of the old ones? If the old ones still stay, will we be able to say continue the story of some of our characters?

EDIT:

Another question, with regards to co-op, will we be able to trade items between players or will everyone have their own drops and there won't be any way to share loot?

Thanks :)

This may sound trivial, but how extensive the character customizability is going to be? The aestehetics are important to many of us. I spend literally hours and hours tweaking the appearance of my character in Oblivion, and I would like to do the same in Torchlight II. :)

I am 100% positive each player will get their own drops, just like in Mythos, and there will be trading (not "throw it on the ground and let the other person puck it up" trading, but real trading)

"3- What will the max party size be?"

I would really like to know this as well. I'm really hoping for at least 4 max.

Personally, i would guess its gonna be atleast 4, im not sure what it is, but 4 is just a good number, look at many coop games, many many of all types of games have 4. Its just a fitting number.

For party size, I hope 4 too. Is a good number. I played a lot to Left 4 Dead 1, 2 and Alien Swarm that provide 4 player co-op and it is a good compromise.

My only question - will there be destructibles?

I'd love to see these in the game...

But beyond that, I'm just glade there will be a multiplayer this time around!

From the press release:

Torchlight II will be sold at a low price point

So I'm guessing the same as Torchlight I.

For mod made maps, please don't go and try to protect us from ourselves.
We are perfectly capable of securing our own maps/mods.
If you were to try to implement some type of anti-cheat, at least don't make it apply to custom maps.

I can forsee making game types that Runic would never expect to see in an ARPG engine. Your anti-cheat would poo all over such potential.

One thing you might do for map devs is support some kind of bank mechanism like SC2 has currently. I'm not familiar with Torchlight script because I was not interested in developing for a single player offline game, but I'll definitely support Torchlight 2. If Torch script already has a bank/cookie kind of feature then disregard this.

P.S. THANK YOU

Few more questions

1. Will the endless dungeon have Bosses? Make another monster level above Champions and have them be random bosses or something like that. The endless dungeon was really missing that, it would really help to keep the motivation of going deeper.

2. Will gear continue to scale with the endless dungeon the deeper you go? Again, it was rather disappointing to have gear only go to lvl 55 in the endless dungeon.

3. Will enchanting be a big component in the game? I personally would like to see it removed unless it can truly balanced.

Yeah, I didn't see anything about it either, but they didn't really reveal that much. So I am just assuming it's there. I like the idea of an endless dungeon, just not how it worked in TL1. Just hoping it implemented better if it is still in the game.

PC Gamer: Can you tell us a bit about how the multiplayer works? I’m assuming you’re going to have had to change some of the mechanics in the game to make it workable for more than one person to play

Travis Baldree: We’re trying to keep it as close as humanly possible, honestly. Obviously there’s no pausing, but the aim is for it to feel as fast paced and enjoyable as we can possibly make it. We haven’t decided on a final player count for a session. It might be anywhere from four, to six, to seven. It’s really going to depend on how fast people are at mowing down monsters. We will probably, to a certain degree, limit the number of summons you can have, to prevent it being a crowd of five guys with twelve zombies apiece wandering the screen, for the sake of your sanity.

Hope they make an option like in mythos where you can switch between modes. Mouse camera and isometric.
