Hm, so this isn't actually an MMO. It's more like Diablo 2 versus WoW if I'm reading this right. Hard to say just at a glance.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not disappointed at the prospect of multiplayer with the current game. It just seems like this is an intermediate step towards "the big one".

It'll be good to roam the overworld again....

I think you're right on the money, Grand...and i'm fine with that. As long as they don't end up another Blizzard, I'll be happy. Seeing as how they were treated at Blizzard, I kinda doubt it tho ^.^

Torchlight itself was a result of having enough material from developing the MMO to put together to form a cohesive enough game. So they're taking iterative design steps and letting us share along on the ride. Sounds pretty good to me.

There were indications that they would be doing something like this after Torchlight released, but I think with Perfect World's involvement and legal issues, they've been quiet about it until they could firm up some details (I'm guessing).

Just wondering if servers will be hosted by them or not. If its like D2 and no hacking and duping count me in for the next half decade, but otherwise I doubt I'll stick with this game for longer than a play through or 2 with my GF. In that case I say bring on the MMO!

Torchlight 2 is not the same as the MMO from what I gather, lets try not to make the mistake of spreading that idea.

I guess you weren't on these forums when the SP first came out, and everybody was begging for multiplayer.
Intermediate it is not. Here is a key combination that the MMO will never have: Multiplayer, modded maps/dugeons, and a neverending mod community support.

Years from now, when you're fully leveled up, with nothing to do, the Torchlight 2 community will be alive and thriving due to that potent, winning combination of multiplayer and mod-ability.

Now whos up for a match of Torch-DotA Allstars? :D

I figured that Torchlight was essentially an evolution of FATE, so multiplayer wasn't expected there. Mythos on the other hand was basically a proto-MMO, since all the information was contained on a server, unlike the planned Torchlight 2. This wasn't expected since I was assuming they were going to just jump right into the MMO since Mythos was in that mold - I just didn't see it coming in this form. Again, it's perfectly fine for them to create a sharable Torchlight - it'll certainly perfect a lot of game balance while offering players a chance to enjoy multplayer before the actual MMO permutation.

I guess it'll be a little while longer before I get to be a proper beta-tester again. :)

There seems to be a lot of misconception going around.

Torchlight 2 will be similar to the prior Torchlight game BUT with built in multtiplayer support.

There is ALSO a Torchlight MMO being developed simultaneously.

THEY ARE NOT THE SAME GAME.

Yeah but let the kids dream, because unlike Blizzard, Ruinic depends on good rating and player participation, not living off of the legacy of games that came before their next release, Ruinic took the advice from their original forums and already knew they wanted TL2 and TLMMO, the Devs actually care about our input as players... after all I honestly believe that these are games they want to play not what they are being told they have a "quota" to complete at a specified time. The product to this company is what matters not the overlord (starcraft zerg) beating down on them to release something for a quick buck that is forgetable (I am looking at you GTA4, but I can't forget a game that bad...).
I am just trying to be fair, if what I say hurts you, you probably need to seriously evaluate what I said, break it down and realize I am not trying to insult you, Just explain things you probably didn't realize.
