You could always use a mod to resurrect him. Perhaps there even is a mod that'll erase his death count. Seeing as you didn't fail but your computer did, it seems perfectly justified.

And Ember Lightning > Ember Lance. At least the modded one which makes it scale better and hit more targets. Pew pew pew.

Fire lance goes really well with +spell casting speed and you can cast it much longer w/o going oom. plus I also had ember bolt maxxed out for poison carnage.
