[WEAPONS] Royal Armory

Postby Arkham » Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:30 pm

I planned to make this for TL2, but the wait has been a bit longer than expected, so I went ahead and made it for TL1. May port it over to TL2 when the time comes.

Royal Armory (new weapons)

This adds new weapons (one of each weapon type) to the game. Stats-wise, they are simply low-level generic weaponry, that can spawn as normal (white) items, or magical (green) items. They are itemized for level 10, and have a level requirement of 9. They have slightly better damage ranges and weapon speeds than weapons of a comparable level range, but this is the only difference of that sort.

The primary draw is that these weapons are "cleaner" in their art style, and of slightly more elaborate design; most low-level weapons have art with detail consisting of nicks, scratches, and damage, and don't have much in the way of ornamentation. This mod is simply designed to give a change of pace around that level range, so one can get a weapon at a low level that performs slightly better and looks plausibly but not excessively nicer than normal.

Very cool, thanks for sharing your mod, Arkham! These weapons fit in pretty damn well with the original Torchlight weapons too :)

Just out of curiosity - did you model and texture these from scratch Ark, or did you convert them over from existing models? Either way, definitely looking forward to more like this when TL2 (finally) gets here ;)

All done from scratch.
I did glance at some images from a google search to get ideas for what some of the weapons should look like (the polearm is a good example of that, since there are so many different types I had a hard time deciding on my own what it should look like). But the models are completely made by me, the textures likewise painted completely by me from nothing.

These look great Arkham.

I never really thought about it before, but I guess it's a bit weird that even your newly bought weapons come with battle damage.

Arkham - those models are AWESOME! Seriously, great work on them all! ;) Downloaded and installed and will give it a go on a new toon.

Awesome looking models, any plans to make unique weapons that use them?

No plans specifically, although it's something I've considered.
Rather than unique items specifically, what I'll probably do is, if/when I port these over to TL2, I'll make one set of these in a "normal" range and another in an "epic" range, so people will get a couple chances at using these (once at a low level and once again at a higher level).

It'd only take all of five minutes to make epic versions of 'em in notepad. All you gotta do is copy&paste the files to itemstier2 folder and for each item amend "epic" to the string name, display name and file name, increase the <INTEGER>LEVEL: by 30 and delete the GUID. I've done this myself for about a half dozen or so item mods I've got installed that didn't include epic versions. Heck, I'll do it for you if you don't want to, I was going to do it anyway.
